My dog has a red ring bite. Is it a tick? Should I call a vet?

Poor Kato! I hope this bite is not bothering him too much. It looks like what we see with black fly bites. Whilst humans can get the 'bullseye' lesion with a tick bite that is not usually something we see with dogs. I would monitor the area for any worsening of the symptoms. You could apply a cool compress if it seems inflamed or itchy. Take Kato to see your regular veterinarian if other lesions develop or he seems to feel unwell.

It’s hard to say from the photo. That could be an area where a tick bit Winston. It could also be some sort of puncture wound, spider bite or potentially a ringworm lesion. From the photo, the area looks swollen. Because of this I recommend to have him examined by the veterinarian with in the next 24 hours. A swollen tick bite or puncture wound could indicate the onset of an infection. There could also be a tick head or foreign object trapped in the skin. That looks like a skin lesion to me, which could be from a tick bite. It could also be a ringworm lesion. Without seeing Dozer in person, I can't say for certain what is causing this mark. Keep the area clean and dry. You can use a diluted Betadine or chlorhexidine (Hibiclens) solution to clean the area daily. Tick bites frequently result in a red, raised area (tick bite granuloma) after the tick drops off or is removed. The good news is that they resolve on their own within a few weeks. A small amount of localized swelling and redness is a normal inflammatory reaction after tick removal. However, if the swelling and redness persists then you should have your vet take a look at it. You could clean the area with a wound wash and then apply a topical OTC antibiotic cream to the area. Make sure to use a good flea and tick prevention, NexGard, Bravecto, Credelio. Also, talk to your vet about vaccinating for Lyme disease is she isn't vaccinated. Monitor for any abnormal signs and talk your vet about yearly testing for tick borne diseases and heartworms.

It looks like she has a pyoderma which is a skin infection. She should be examined and treated by your vet as she may need an antibiotic to treat the condition. In the meantime, you could bathe her with a medicated shampoo, like Douxo Chlorhexidine shampoo.

This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). It does not specifically look like a tic bite. A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking/scratching.
