The photos are pretty blurry/pixelated so it's difficult to tell. Maximus Oakley could have a mild skin infection, or be developing allergies. I recommend having your vet take a look to determine what's going on. If he's developing an infection your vet can determine if he's likely to improve with something topical (such as a medicated shampoo) or needs a course of oral medication. If they suspect he's developing allergies, they can discuss the various intervention options, such as a monthly injection (Cytopoint) or daily pill (Apoquel).

Red, irritated skin can occur due to many causes including chewing at the area due to pain, fleas, a skin infection or allergies. If your dog has any signs of a urinary tract infection including increased frequency of urination, accidents in the house or blood on the urine he should be seen by your veterinarian. If not, be sure you are using a high quality flea preventative and keep him from chewing at the area. If the redness and irritation do not resolve within a few days or if it gets worse I would recommend that you have him seen by your veterinarian.

It looks like he could have a skin infection. You could bathe him with a anti-microbial medicated dog shampoo and see if that helps. Otherwise, have him examined by a vet for treatment. He may need an antibiotic, anti-histamine, and/or a corticosteroid to help treat. Make sure to use a flea medication, like NexGard, to prevent fleas and ticks. If he is licking and chewing on the area then an E-collar may be necessary to keep him from damaging the skin.

It looks like there may be a small skin infection (called pyoderma). You can use a medicated shampoo like Dechra Malacetic Ultra Otic, but if it doesn't look better in 72 hours, your pup may need oral antibiotics to clear the infection.

Why is my Maltipoo's underbelly skin red, bare, and not healing?

Poor Guy! He could have an allergic dermatitis and a skin infection. He definitely needs to be examined and treated by a vet. If your vet is not able to manage the condition then you could take him to a veterinary dermatologist. I am not sure what medications he has been prescribed in the past, but it looks like he needs an antibiotic and an anti-inflammatory. You could also talk to you vet about trying a new allergy medication called Apoquel or Cytopoint to see if that helps, too. Your vet could also do a skin scrape and/or biopsy of his skin to help rule out other potential causes. Hope he gets some relief soon!

My dog's private area looks red. Could it be a UTI or infection?

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Dior and including a picture, it's helpful. The area does look a bit red, but it's hard to tell from a picture if there is an issue or not. Diagnosing a UTI would require a urine sample, and I would need to be able to see her in person to diagnose if there is an infection. I'm also not sure if she is showing symptoms like frequent urination, urinating in small amounts, drinking lots of water, trying to go to the bathroom frequently, accidents in the home, or lethargy (these are all signs of a UTI). An infection may be presented with symptoms such as a discharge. If she is showing any of the signs I mentioned, then she needs to see a vet. Just a little redness could be normal, and if she has no symptoms or abnormal behavior, then I suspect she is fine. I hope this helps!

Hi and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Thanks for sending along the pictures- the areas there do look very red and do appear infected to me. Allergies, bacterial, fungal, or mite infections can all be possible causes. You can try the medicated shampoo again to see if it helps this time around. If it doesn't help much or if it worsens, I would recommend Oscar see his veterinarian for an exam and further evaluation. He may need antibiotics or other medications as needed.

My dog has an itchy rash on his thighs and private area. What is it?

Hello, and thank you for your question and detailed photos. It looks like he may have a bacterial skin infection. Other underlying causes could be parasites such as fleas, or a fungal infection. I was trying to determine from the photos whether this was related to hives which would be indicative of a sudden allergic reaction. If he also has facial swelling or difficulty breathing, I would get him to a vet right away. If his symptoms are only the rash on his back, thighs and groin area, my first guess is that this is a bacterial infection (pyoderma). This will likely require treatment with antibiotics from your vet, but if you cannot get to a vet in the next few days, you can try bathing him with a gentle chlorhexidine based shampoo for dogs, which will help to manage any surface skin bacteria. I would also think about any possible triggers that may have caused the sudden skin problem, such as feeding a new food or treat, or bathing with a new shampoo, or swimming, etc. Keeping the area covered is a great idea, or you can use an e-collar (cone) to prevent him from licking the areas but still letting the skin breathe. Is my Shih Tzu's inflamed, flaky skin around her eyes an allergy?

Without pictures it is difficult to say for sure what this could be. This may be due to allergies, a skin infection (fungal or bacterial), etc. I would recommend using the below products to start. These can all be found online quite easily or at your local pet store. If there is no improvement, I would recommend having Gracie examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I hope this helps!
