My dog has a red, itchy rash for weeks. When should I see a vet?

I'd have this checked out by a vet since it hurts Teddy to have it touched. He could have an injury, a skin infection, allergies, or a hot spot. The vet can diagnose what is causing this area, and can treat it. Best of luck.

It is definitely time to take him for assessment and treatment right away. The severe itch is causing him to damage the skin which can lead to infection and scarring in addition to the itchy allergy and makes management much more complicated

I think that would be uncomfortable for Felix. It could be a contact allergy from his walk. If he is scratching it, it can become infected from continuous scratching. I would take him into the vet to have this treated. Best of luck.

It could be that there is something in the home or the new environment that is causing Blondie to have a contact allergy. I would have her seen by a vet. It's not normal to have a rash for a couple of months, and it needs to be examined and treated. She may benefit from steroids and medicated shampoos for the rash, which the vet can prescribe. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I cannot give a dose for Benadryl because I have not seen Doobie but I don't think you are giving him enough and often enough to help. If he has a rash, Benadryl may not be strong enough and he may also have a secondary infection and need antibiotics.
