My dog has a red, inflamed wound. Is it a bite or infection?

Please, take Rona to your local vets for an appointment. She will likely need a course of antibiotics in form of tablets or ointment/cream.

This usually occurs secondary to allergies as they lick and scratch leaving the skin more susceptible to yeast and bacteria. I would recommend a vet visit to get her on appropriate antibiotics and possible a medication for allergies. There are many treatment options to try for an itchy dog.

It is possible this is an insect bite. Fly bites in particular can look like a red ring with a central pallor (pale area in the middle). It is tough to tell from the photo what the central area looks like. If it is raised and looks like it is filled with yellow/pus, then this could be a pustule which is a sign of skin infection. If the center is flat with the skin and just pale in color, then a bug bite is more likely.

From the pictures, the skin appears red and inflamed. It does look like it is infected. While this may not be a true emergency, I would recommend getting in to see your veterinarian very soon. Pookie will need the area shaved and cleaned up. Your vet may prescribe an antibiotic for this as well depending. Until you can get to your vet, you can keep the area clean and dry and use a mild soap and water to clean the wound. If Pookie is licking it, you can put on ECollar on her to prevent licking.

This redness could be due to inflammation, infection or both. If the trauma was within the past day or two, I would monitor for another 24 hours. If the redness continues to spread or does not go away, I would recommend having this looked at by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate treatment can be administered. Hi. Good photo. It is hard to know if this is a bug/arachnid bite or something else. It does look very inflamed and infected. I would recommend getting him in for a check and some antibiotics and anti-inflammatories.

This could be a wound or an infection. I would recommend cleaning this using a solution of diluted betadine and water (mix until a light brown color) and monitor for signs of worsening. If the area does not resolve or it worsens, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine the area so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made.
