My outdoor dog has a red bump on his paw. Tumor or allergic reaction?

Hi there. This is most likely a histiocytoma. They will often regress on their own within a few weeks to a month. My suggestion would be to take Hazel to your vet for an exam so you can get a more definitive diagnosis. Hi there. This looks like a histiocytoma. If it is, it should regress (go away on it's own) within a month or two. I would not be overly worried about this right now. That mass on Ryder's foot looks like a mass than an allergy but it is difficult to tell from a picture. You can try soaking it in an epsom salt bath but it really looks like it needs to be examined by a veterinarian. It could be something benign like a cyst or histiocytoma but it could also be a malignant mass such as a mast cell tumor. Having it examined by a veterinarian will give you a diagnosis and proper treatment so that he can get better.

Hello, thank you for suing PetCoach. Most likely this is benign histiocytoma. I have linked an article for you below about this issue. Basically it is a common benign tumor that is typically seen in young dogs and on the extremities. It regresses on its own within a few months. No treatment is needed however, is some cases, giving Benadryl has seemed to make it go away sooner. For a 48 pound dog I would give two of the 25mg Benadryl (diphenhydramine) capsules twice a day until you notice it reducing in size. Yes, dogs take a much higher dose of Benadryl than we do. I would not be overly concerned about this but we sure don't want her licking it so if her licking gets excessive, you will need to put a cone collar on her to stop that. The bump you are seeing could be a mass, or it could be a skin lesion caused by bacterial, parasitic or fungal infection, dietary or environmental allergies or sensitivities, or could be a combination of the above. I recommend making an appointment to have your dog seen by your veterinarian to help determine the cause of the bump you’ve noticed and to make sure it is treated appropriately. The vet will likely want to look at a sample from the area under the microscope to determine what is causing the bump and to provide treatment. . In the meantime, if he is licking the area, I recommend putting an e-collar/cone on him to help prevent licking and reduce the risk of infection.

Hi and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! That's good to hear you've been keeping the area clean and that is doesn't appear to be bothering him. However, I would recommend this get checked out with Hershey's veterinarian soon. The bump may be allergy related or could be an abscess, swelling due to fracture of the digit, or could be an mass/tumor. Until you can get Hershey seen by his veterinarian, I would recommend Epsom salt water baths for the paw 2-3 times daily for 5-10 mins to help reduce swelling.

Any lumps/bumps that you notice on your dog should be checked out by your vet. Lumps are usually one of these things: * abscess * cyst * cancer tumor (benign or malignant) * wart There is no way I can tell you what it is just by looking at a photo but I have a suspicion it is a histiocytoma (benign tumor).
