Why shouldn't I ever feed my dog raw liver with their dry food?

Hello again! Yes you can potentially feed this much, but she doesn't need it daily. It's a treat, and treats should never be given daily or they no longer are treats. In addition, too much liver can lead to an overdose of vitamin A, which in turn leads to bone deformity, bone spurs, digestive problems, muscle weakness, weight loss, and stiffness. Processed food like canned liver should be avoided in dogs. It can have a high salt content and be very fatty which can cause gastrointestinal problems. The problem with liverwurst is that it is high in fat, and it can cause pancreatitis. A teaspoon won't cause a problem, but you are right that Izzy really should be eating the dry food only. Each week, I would add a little bit less of the liverwurst to until she is eating the kibble only. Hopefully by slowly decreasing the amount, that will keep her eating her dry food. Best of luck.

No, this is not true. Modern dogs have absolutely nothing to do with wolfes and their nutrition any more. The AVMA is not recommending raw feeding due to the danger of the meat being contaminated with salmonella, campylobacter and other bacteria. You should feed a complete food for medium sized to large sized dogs. According to the USDA, beef liver needs to reach an internal temperature of 160 degree Fahrenheit. Anything below is considered undercooked and is at risk of pathogens.
