My dog has a rash, vomiting, and diarrhea. Are these symptoms related?

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. It sounds as though Pachu is not tolerating the antibiotics. I would contact the veterinarian to discuss other options for treating the skin infection. If the skin infection is not bad, then the use of oral antibiotics may not be needed. I always try to treat mild skin infections with topical therapy alone and get very good success in doing so. If Pachu is dehydrated from the vomiting / diarrhea he may need hydration therapy to help with that. I hope this helps!

I doubt they were caused by the same thing but that doesn't mean stress or being sick didn't affect another part of the body to make it more susceptible to a disease. There is nothing to put on her mouth since she will just lick it off. You can try boiled chicken and rice and add canine probiotics to the food to help with the diarrhea until you can get her seen. She will likely need a fecal exam and a skin sample by a vet since it has been going on for so long

Diarrhea can be observed with conditions such as colitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Jameson evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They may choose to check for parasites and to start medications for diarrhea depending on the results. It really comes down to figuring out what is causing his allergies so that they can be treated or the specific allergen avoided. You can use an e-collar in the meantime to prevent further self-trauma. There are many things that can cause allergies though in most cases they can be broken down into 3 big categories: flea, food and environmental allergies. Allergies are usually worked up in a stepwise fashion starting with flea allergies as this is the easiest and cheapest to take care of. If not on a flea preventative, then it would be a good idea to get started on one. If already on one then it would be a good idea to change to something else (there are many new products out in the market). If not improved in 1-3 months then it is time to move on and check for food allergies by switching to a novel diet (new protein and new carbohydrate). If that does not seem to be the issue then you are left out having to check for environmental allergies which require blood and/or skin tests. Allergies can be very frustrating to deal with at first but so rewarding at the end when we are able to treat them effectively!

We call this superficial pyoderma. For these, I recommend topical therapy and skin supplementation. If after 10-14 days there is no improvement with this approach, I recommend visiting the veterinarian and having the vet take a look at Po so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking/scratching (if any). The other signs are quite concerning and could be caused by a possible gastrointestinal infection. A check up would be absolutely needed.
