My dog has diarrhea and a rash near her nose. Could they be related?

The skin infection may be due to a resistant bacteria, so you may need to play around with various other antibiotics to see which works best. I would also recommend using a topical approach using the following products and see if this helps. As for the diarrhea, I would also add in a probiotic such as Fortiflora and test the stool for intestinal parasites. 1. Douxo PS Chlorhexidine combination shampoo 2. Malacetic conditioning spray 3. Essential 6 spot on by dermoscent Mojo is a breed where we do see skin infections and abnormal skin problems show up commonly. The diarrhea could be from something such as a dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, GI inflammatory disease, cancer, etc. You could use Tylosin powder (an antibiotic) and see if this helps calm down the diarrhea. The diarrhea could be caused by any number of things; intestinal parasites, a bacterial infection, even being constipated will sometimes manifest as diarrhea because liquid feces is all that will get by the impacted fecal material. It could be as simple as a dietary indiscretion, meaning she might have gotten into the trash and eaten something that didn't agree with her. Try taking away all food, treats included, for 24 hours (only if she is an adult dog; puppies should never be fasted for more than 12 hours). She can still have water. This will give her gut a chance to rest. After the 24 hours are up, introduce just a small amount of her normal food. Wait a little while and give her a little more. Keep doing this until she has had her normal amount for the morning. However, if she continues to have loose stool, or starts vomiting, loses her appetite, acts lethargic, and/or develops a fever, get her in to be seen by your vet right away as this could indicate a more serious problem.

Diarrhea can be observed with conditions such as colitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Jameson evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They may choose to check for parasites and to start medications for diarrhea depending on the results. It really comes down to figuring out what is causing his allergies so that they can be treated or the specific allergen avoided. You can use an e-collar in the meantime to prevent further self-trauma. There are many things that can cause allergies though in most cases they can be broken down into 3 big categories: flea, food and environmental allergies. Allergies are usually worked up in a stepwise fashion starting with flea allergies as this is the easiest and cheapest to take care of. If not on a flea preventative, then it would be a good idea to get started on one. If already on one then it would be a good idea to change to something else (there are many new products out in the market). If not improved in 1-3 months then it is time to move on and check for food allergies by switching to a novel diet (new protein and new carbohydrate). If that does not seem to be the issue then you are left out having to check for environmental allergies which require blood and/or skin tests. If this does not clear up the diarrhea or if your dog gets lethargic, she needs to see a veterinarian for an exam as there may be something more serious such as an infection going on. 2) rash and 3)sore: Uma could be suffering from an allergy, mites, fleas, a bacterial or fungal infection. each of these requires a different treatment, so it is important to find out what is causing these. You will need to take your dog to a veterinarian for a skin exam. Your vet will do a thorough exam and maybe do a skin scrape. He will then discuss the options with you and then prescribe the proper medications.

This could be a sign of an allergic reaction. If she has not returned to normal I recommend Daisy get checked out by her veterinarian. Sometimes allergic reaction's require steroids other times antihistamines. If her diarrhea was a lot she could have mild dehydration as well.

I am sorry to hear about your dog! If this is coming and going I would wonder if there is something he is occasionally getting into that he has an allergy to, such as a plant in your yard. Or perhaps he is getting a special treat/table scrap on the days he breaks out that he has an allergy to. I would recommend bringing him in during a flare up for his vet to examine him as we do worry when we have lesions develop along the edge of the nose about autoimmune disease, so he should be examined to ensure this isn't something that needs to be further investigated.
