Dog rash, fur loss, itching: What to do when antibiotics fail?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | unspayed | 40 lbs

My 10/11 month old boxer/pit bull mix has a rash looking type thing on her skin but the spot is losing fur and she keeps itching it. Went to vet and she gave me a antibiotic spray and antibiotic pills for pup. I changed her collar, changed her bed, what else can I do?

If the antibiotics aren't helping Mia than she could have ringworm or demodex and she should be rechecked by your vet. Your vet can do a skin scrape and fungal culture to diagnose and then prescribe medications, depending on the cause. Call your vet and give him/her an update and schedule a recheck appointment.
