This will depend on the preparation of rabies vaccine you use. If you look at the vial it should tell you. You can also ask the local shelter in your town or your veterinarian who is familiar with your brand of vaccine. The supplier of the vaccine should also be able to tell you.

Rabies cannot be given this young. You need to check with your vet as to what is required in your area - most rabies vaccines can only be given between 12 and 16 weeks of age. It depends on which manufacturer's vaccine you have. It is not recommended to give vaccinations if the dog does not have a normal body temperature. A temperature of 103.8F (39.9C) is a fever. That is not a "slight" fever. You can give the mother the rabies vaccination at any time, even while pregnant, because it is a "killed" vaccination. He will be fine in the long term but it is possible for him to have a reaction the vaccine such as swelling or redness or vomiting or diarrhea. The best thing to do is check the records and make sure they are under the correct owner and animal name at the vet because sometimes they can have 2 files of the same animal under different owners ( yours and your parents) and not realize they are the same. From there ask them to adjust the reminds so you only have him being due in 1-3 years from now based on your areas laws

Hi and thanks again for posting. The rabies vaccine as well as any vaccine is note based on weight. It matters not the size of the dog but the age (3-4 months based on your state is typical). As long as Oliver has not had any reactions to vaccines in the past, he should be just fine. Doing one vaccine at a time will help to not overload his body at one time and that is fine to do. Waiting longer does not minimize reactions in small dogs as long as he has not had a history of reactions to vaccines in the past and is currently healthy. I hope this has helped!

Most vaccines can be given in a series on the same day as long as they are given in different injection sites, and your dog doesn't have a history of adverse reactions to vaccines. However, your vet will know your pet best and it's best to contact them with regards to any vaccine protocols they use, as they will have the most up to date information on the vaccine type and manufacturer they are using in their clinic that may counter indicate giving it on the same day. The only other thing I could think would be a potential liability issue if the injection is given the same time as a home-given injection and then an adverse reaction occurred, as it would be hard to determine what injection caused the reaction if not properly documented. If you have documentation of the vaccines you've given at home, I would make sure these are all up to date with your veterinarian to ensure there isn't any miscommunication going on.

It would be safer to vaccinate again than to risk bot vaccinating, especially when he is so young as it is unlikely any course would be complete at this stage. The original vet should be able to confirm what if any vaccinate had been given if you can obtain contact details. As a general rule, vets would normally issue a written record when vaccinating pups so the new owner can follow on with recommended course, no book often indicates lack of complete vaccine schedule!

It will not be dangerous for them, in fact I recommend making sure they are up to date on all vaccinations. Even if that means getting them again. It will only protect them! I will say any dog can have a reaction, so just monitor for signs of swelling of any part of the body, difficulty breathing or excessive vomiting. These reactions are rare but can happen.
