My dog's rabies vaccine is overdue. Is he still protected from rabies?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Poodle | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 4 months old | 11 lbs

My dog got rabies vaccine on 28th october last year and so it writes that vaccine expired on 28th october of this year. I didn’t have a chance to take him to vet to get second rabies vaccine, I will tomorrow, that will be three days after the vaccine has expired. Does that mean that he could have rabies now? He is standard poodle, 1 and half year old

Although it is highly recommended that all vaccinations are completed on time, especially the Rabies vaccine, 3 days overdue should be fine. Hugo should still be protected from the immunity he developed in response to his first vaccine one year ago. I would advise taking extra precautions during these three days and keeping Hugo indoors and away from other dogs, and other animals.
