My Shih Tzu has a puffy, hairless lump above his eye. What is it?

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Male | neutered | 6 years and 10 months old | 12 lbs

Hello! I noticed this swollen area with hair loss above my shih tzu’s eye and was wondering if anyone could shed any light as to what it may be? I don’t feel anything palpable but it’s a tad bit puffy. I am going to make him an appointment tomorrow.

Thanks for visiting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It can be concerning when you find a lump/bump on your pet. This one in particular could be a bug bite based on its appearance, but a growth can't be completely ruled out. If it is somewhat squishy, then a cyst like growth is more likely. I would certainly get it examined by your vet who can palpate the area and make a better determination here. Otherwise, I wouldn't worry too much about this skin lesion for now.

This may be an abscess, a cyst or a tumor. You should have it examined by your veterinarian, as it is not possible to distinguish these by just looking at a photo. An abscess can usually be treated with antibiotics and/or be lanced, and a cyst can be evacuated. Hello. These are probably benign, but since they are pigmented, I would recommend checking them out. A biopsy of one of them should confirm what the rest are & if a treatment plan is indicated, your veterinarian will know exactly what to do, even if it is just a watch & wait on the bumps. What is this pink bump on my dog's eyelid? Should I be concerned?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I would continue to monitor it for now as this may just be an area of infection or inflammation. It could even be a growth though thankfully most of the eyelid growths in dogs are benign. I would continue to monitor it for now. If it goes away then great. However, if it does not go away and actually continues to grow, I recommend you have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to look into this further and see what seems more likely. Best of luck!

My dog has a bump on his eyelid. Is it a bite or allergic reaction?

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It very definitely can be an allergic reaction to a sting or bite. If it is not bothering him, then there is probably not too much to worry about, You can apply a cold compress to the area ( a bag of frozen peas wrapped in a towel works well ) for 5-10 minutes every hour or so, but if he begins whining, scratching his face, or pawing at his eyes, you may need to run him in to your vet for steroids, &/or antihistamines. Hopefully, it will start to go down soon. Take care.

My dog has a bald spot with a bump on his neck. What could it be?

This looks like a mass not a bite. I recommend an exam. They can feel it and if it’s a mass can aspirate some cells to see if it’s benign or malignant. It may also be a sebaceous cyst. Hi, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! What you are describing on Molly could be anything from ringworm to a red button tumor. From what you are describing, this lesion sounds raised, so I'm more inclined to think something like the red button tumor, a papilloma, or an insect/spider bite/sting. Generally, those types of things are self-limiting, but I would recommend having it examined by a veterinarian to be sure, especially if it gets bigger and/or starts bothering Molly.
