Is my Labrador pregnant or sick? She has a big belly and is lethargic.

Two possibilities exist here, one she is pregnant or two she is sick. If you are not feeling puppies kicking in her belly and she is puking and acting ill, then she could have a serious condition called Pyometra (spontaneously infected uterus). This will cause swelling of the belly almost overnight and cause the pet to have a fever (> 102.5 degree Fahrenheit rectal temperature), vomit, decreased appetite and lethargy. Common causes would be Pyometra (uterine infection- an emergency condition!), Cushing's disease and liver disease. either way i would strongly recommend taking her to the vet urgently, this is not something you can treat at home.

Pregnancy can definitely cause a firm, distended abdomen. Lily's nipples also appear to be bigger than normal, which can indicate she is pregnant or had a litter in the past. That is possible. If she has any vomiting, is unable to stand/walk, stops eating, develops a vaginal discharge or seems painful it could be something else going on and she should be examined by a veterinarian.

If Lucille is still interested in food, drinking water, and not vomiting or diarrhea, I would continue to monitor her for another 24 hours. I would see a vet if the lethargy and decrease appetite continues. She could be coming down with something and may get worse, or getting over something and bounce back. It's not normal that Luna's belly is swollen a week after breeding, and i would be concerned that the swelling could be due to a medical illness such as a pyometra (infection of the uterus). She could also be suffering from intestinal worms, bloat, or have a build up of fluid in the abdomen from a disease process. I would have Luna seen by a vet immediately for this, as there can be some very serious causes behind a suddenly swollen belly. The vet can do a physical exam, blood tests, urinalysis, and x-rays to diagnose what is causing her swollen belly. Once the cause is found, the vet can discuss treatment with you. Please take her into a vet now.

Hello, It's possible that Belea is pregnant, but I also worry that she could have an infected uterus (pyometra) that could also cause her to have a decreased appetite. Pyometra is a surgical emergency and requires very different care than a normal pregnancy. I'd recommend taking her to her veterinarian. They can confirm a pregnancy or uterine problem with imaging.
