Can popcorn kernels cause an obstruction and make my dog sick?

Unfortunately whenan object becomes lodged in the intestines and nothing is passing through it, then nothing given by mouth will reach theforeign object because the intestinals go through a process called lieus, where nothing is moving. Therefore the only fix in that situation is surgical removal of the foreign object. You know that your pet is expereincing ileus if they are excessively vomiting (even water), forming little to no stools, are extremely lethargic, and dilated loops of intestines are seen on their abdominal radiograph. If it is a partial obstruction, then you can try feeding your pet 1/2-1 slice of high fiber bread and taking them on short 30 minute brisk walks twice a day to encourage GI motility. No oral oils are recommended because of the high risk of aspiration pneumonia. Oils don’t go down the mouth very well in dogs. A corn cob poses a serious risk of gastric or intestinal obstruction. Simba should be seen by your veterinarian today. Abdominal x-rays will be needed to determine where the cob is and if it is stuck. If he cannot pass it on his own, surgery may be required.

An obstruction is a very serious problem and typically requires surgery to relieve. So if he is not acting back to normal, he will need imaging by a veterinarian. This can be serious and need surgical removal if it causes an obstruction. Usually if it's becoming a problem Stella would vomit or not eat well, she could have stomach pain, or not be able to poop. With surgery if it's not gone on too long there should be minimal problems and she should recover fine, and be back to her normal self in a few days. If you wait too long if she has symptoms then she could get sick before the surgery which would make it more of a risk. Another option is to wait another day or so then take her to your regular veterinary for an X-ray to see if it's still in the intestinal tract and then if it is still inside you could repeat the X-ray in another day or two to see if it has moved. If it's still whole and not moving I would have the corn cob surgically removed before it causes a medical problem. If Stella is perfectly normal with eating, drinking and pooping then hopefully it was chewed up enough and will pass out without an issue. Oh boy, that may not be good. Corn husks are not broken down in the GI tract, and cause obstructions. It could be this corn husk is causing Hobbes a problem now if he's vomited a bit of it and is now only having small bowel movements. I would take him into a vet immediately for an x-ray. Wow, that was definitely stuck there for a while and it must have just came unstuck. This is quite unusual and means that there was a partial blockage the whole time. Complete blockages and sometimes partial blockage can cause life-threatening complications, but Rocko does not appear to be having those signs. If he is eating, drinking and defecating OK, then there is no need to rush him to the vet at this time. If he does become blocked, he would stop eating, stop defecating, vomit and would generally be appearing depressed. If you notice the combination of those signs happening, then he should go to the vet right away. I hope that helps and Rocko gets better soon.

Hi. I'm sorry Cooper is having stomach issues. If you vet has taken an X-ray and they think he is blocked from eating cloth, it sounds like they have a diagnosis and that he may need surgery. I would do whatever your vet is recommending, when dogs are blocked it can be painful and the blockage needs to be removed to help him feel better.
