Diarrhea can be normal after Immiticide injections, especially if he is also currently on steroids (often used concurrently to reduce inflammation and chances of embolisms). You should worry if you see signs of coughing, extreme lethargy, pale gums, not eating, or any random bleeding episodes. Other than that a little loose stool is not very concerning for a severe reaction. You can try a bland diet of boiled plain chicken and rice or cottage cheese tonight to help settle the stomach. If the diarrhea continues past 12-24 hrs then antibiotics +/- probiotics may be prescribed by your vet to help get the intestinal flora back to normal status.

If she continues to have blood her stool contact your veterinarian in the morning. However, if she develops profuse watery and bloody diarrhea with other GI signs such as vomiting and inappetence then she should be seen by an emergency veterinarian. It could be worms so you may want to consider deworming them all. Most dogs that have worms have no symptoms. Without doing a fecal test with your vet there is not going to be a way to know for sure. It will not hurt to go ahead and deworm them even if they have no worms. Just keep in mind that a general deworm is just that, general. It will not kill every type of worms that they could possibly have. Only the most common ones. This is very concerning as it appears to contain blood, mucus and possibly bowel lining. I recommend an oral worm medication, a specialist intestinal or hydrolyzed diet for 6 weeks and a probiotic/fiber supplement such as fortiflora to rebalance the bowel and rule out any parasitic causes. A full health check, blood tests and possibly ultrasound/xray if not responding or any weight loss, vomiting or weakness is noted

One very common problem in adult dogs that causes bloody diarrhea is a whipworm infection. Other causes include food intolerance/sensitivity, dietary indiscretion, parasites, drug reactions, stress, infection, etc. I would advise calling your veterinarian to investigate this problem and make sure that Hanna is ok after receiving the injections for heartworm. Your vet will review a history, perform a physical exam, and possibly advise some tests or treatment. Likely tests could include a fecal exam to check for whipworms, bloodwork, and possible xrays to evaluate her abdomen. Please have her evaluated to rule out whipworms or a possible reaction to the heartworm treatment. I hope she has a speedy recovery.

These signs could be compatible with a colitis, which is an inflammation of the last part of the colon possibly secondary to the parasite infection, usually related to dietary indiscretion. As a first approach, I would suggest to start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice vomiting, lethargy or inappetence. This is an assumption of worms because of the color change, but a simple bacterial infection can also cause a change in the color of the poop. At any rate you can try giving Roscoe a broad spectrum dewormer such as Fenbendazole, which covers hookworms, roundworms and whipworms. Visit your local pet store or feed store to see what is available in your area. Hopefully things get better within the next week or so. You can also add a probiotic like Culturelle (over the counter) in his food daily to help with any bacterial imbalance which is suggested because of the blood you are seeing in the stool.
