My dog has a pink bubble that's red and bothering him. What is it?

Hello. This could just be a cyst or small tumor such as a histiocytoma. At this point, it does not look worrisome, so just monitor for any changes in size &/or shape. Hello, my name is Dr. Shines and I am happy to help. Dogs can get all kinds of skin masses as well as things like pimples and ingrown hairs. Most of these lesions will be benign but a few will be cancerous. Unfortunately, you can't always tell from looks alone. If the bump doesn't seem to hurt or bother Bentley, you might try applying a warm (not hot) compress every couple hours for 10 minutes. If this is an ingrown hair or pimple, this might help it to come to a head. If it seems to bother him, have him examined. If the bump is still there in 2 weeks, I'd go ahead and have Bentley examined. There's one type of skin cancer called a Mast Cell Tumor and they commonly look red/pink, hairless and raised. If the doctor is concerned, they'll test it. I hope this helps and please feel free to reach out with any additional questions.

I would absolutely take Jasmine in to the vet. That is very big and concerning to me. He or she may recommend a cytology (poking the mass with a slim needle and looking at the cells under the microscope) or a biopsy to determine if it needs to be removed or just monitored. Heaven forbid it needs to be removed, it will be a very difficult surgery as there is very little skin to work with there and if it gets bigger, it will be even harder to remove.

This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. This kind of lesion/blister needs to be ideally assessed by your veterinarian to have a definitive and specific answer. Usually there are two ways your vet can do that a part from examining it directly during physical examination. A biopsy can be taken under local or general anesthetic, otherwise a smaller sample through a fine needle can be aspirated (this technique is called FNA= fine needle aspiration). Differentials include skin cysts, infections, benign or more sinister type of tumors. Hello there and thank you for your post! From the pictures you have posted, it the red blood blister like mass you are seeing is most likely what we call a hemangioma, which is typically benign. However, hemangiomas can turn into hemangiosarcomas that are cancerous. I would recommend having this removed if possible to prevent this from progressing. If Gizmo does not do well at the vet, you can ask if they can provide you with an anti-anxiety medication / sedative to administer prior to an appointment to get this looked at. I hope this helps!
