Why is my dog's fur pinkish, especially around their paws or groin?
Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. If the pinkish areas are associated where Clio licks, paws, groin, flank regions, then this is a pigment called porphyrin found in saliva. This may indicate your dog has allergies. There is also a rare disorder in dalmations called Dalmation Bronzing Syndrome. It is caused by an inherited metabolic defect in purine metabolism. High levels of uric acid are excreted directly into the urine. Clio may need to have uric acid/purine metabolism evaluated. There may be some other causes of the pinkish color, so have your veterinarian check this out at your earliest convenience. Take care.
