My puppy has a pink lump on its lip that scabbed. Should I worry?

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Female | unspayed | 5 months and 13 days old | 19 lbs

My 5 month old golden retriever developed a smooth pink lump on her upper lip. Later it formed a small scab. Should I be worried?

Keep an eye on it. It could be local irritation or infection. If it doesn't resolve on its own or if spreads, have Cali examined by your veterinarian. Some antibiotics and/or anti-inflammatory medications may clear it up.
If you have plastic food/water bowls, consider switching to ceramic or stainless steel ones to prevent allergic reactions.

Although a picture of it would help me to provide a more specific answer, this kind of lump/growth needs to be ideally assessed by your veterinarian to have a definitive and specific answer. Usually there are two ways your vet can do that a part from examining it directly during physical examination. A biopsy can be taken under local or general anesthetic, otherwise a smaller sample through a fine needle can be aspirated (this technique is called FNA= fine needle aspiration).
Differentials include skin cysts, infections, benign or more sinister type of tumors.

This usually a completely benign lump that is commonly found on old dogs.
It is usually harmless unless bleeding or infected (it does not look like it in the pic).
Unfortunately this kind of lump/growth needs to be ideally assessed by your veterinarian to have a 100% definitive and specific answer. Usually there are two ways your vet can do that a part from examining it directly during physical examination. A biopsy can be taken under local or general anesthetic, otherwise a smaller sample through a fine needle can be aspirated (this technique is called FNA= fine needle aspiration).

If it gets worse or doesn't resolve then its best to have it looked at after the wait and see period is over, especially if Beaux is not bothered by it.

My old dog has a painless red lump on her lip. Is it serious?

There is no way of knowing for sure without an examination though this represents a reason to seek veterinary care. This is usually determined with an examination and a fine needle aspirate (FNA) or a biopsy. Treatment depends on the findings up to that point. My dog has a red bump on her lip that's growing. Is it serious?

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Kona does have what appears to be a small, round, red and slightly bloody bump on her lip margin. This can be caused by an infection, which may have resulted from a small cut. While Kona is pretty young, it is possible that the bump is a small tumor, and it can be removed to determine if it is benign (not harmful) or malignant (likely to spread). It is concerning that the bump has gotten bigger over time, so I recommend having her seen by a vet. You can get her an E-collar or "cone" to prevent her from scratching or rubbing the area. It could be an infection, cyst, allergic reaction, or mass. Have your vet take a look at the bump tomdetermine the cause. Your vet can do a fine needle aspirate to diagnose and then determine the best way to treat it. He may need an antibiotic, antihistamine, corticosteroid to treat or it may need to be removed.

It's not really common for dogs to get cold sores the way that people do, but there are lots of things that could cause a bump like this - it could be an insect bite or local inflammatory reaction, a papilloma or wart, a localized bacterial infection, or even a skin tumor of some kind. If the bump appeared recently and your dog is acting normal otherwise, you could monitor it for the next week or two to see if it goes away on its own. If it doesn't, or if it becomes painful or itchy it seems to be growing, then I would recommend having it checked by a vet - he/she can do a simple test called a fine needle aspirate to find out what it is.

My dog has a bump on her lip. Is it a cold sore or skin growth?

I am sorry that Kylie has developed this lump on her lip. Dogs can get viral lesions, though this does not appear to be one. From the pictures you have sent the "bump" appears to be a skin growth. There are several types off masses that can grow in the skin of dogs such as cysts, lipomas, allergic reactions and even some type of cancers. Some are benign and some are malignant, so careful observation is important, as well as having a vet examine it if you are concerned. Since you only just noticed the lump, I would continue to monitor it for growth, ulceration, changes in texture or color. Measure the mass with a ruler so you can compare its growth in a weeks time.
