What is this pimple-like bump above my dog's eye? Is it harmful?

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Male | neutered | 1 year and 9 months old | 69 lbs

My dog has this weird pimple like bump above his eye. Its not impaired his vision, and doesn't look cauliflowery so I know its not HPV, but I'm curious as to what it is. It is harmful? Can someone help me diagnose and remedy this?

It is hard to say exactly what the mass could be without examining Knox and taking a sample of the mass first. This should be done at your local veterinarian's office to determine if it is something of concern or not and if it needs to be removed. It is a little concerning as it is near the eye- if the mass was ever to get larger, it could obstruct her vision or irritate her cornea so it is a good idea to have this evaluated by a veterinarian.

HPV is human papilloma virus- dogs cannot get human papilloma virus but have their own version which is canine papilloma virus. These two viruses are species specific.

Some dogs can get multiple all over the body. They usually do not cause a problem unless the dog bothers them. Another possibility is a low grade mast cell tumor. My dog has a hard, wart-like bump under her eye. What is it?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I' sorry to hear Ivy has a growth under her eye. I do recommend all growths be evaluated by your regular veterinarian to determine if they are something malignant (cancerous) or not. Additionally, with this growth so close to the eye, it may need to be removed in order to prevent issues if it were to grow. I would recommend having it evaluated by her regular veterinarian, and a treatment plan made if needed. Good luck!

What is this pink bump on my dog's eyelid? Should I be concerned?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I would continue to monitor it for now as this may just be an area of infection or inflammation. It could even be a growth though thankfully most of the eyelid growths in dogs are benign. I would continue to monitor it for now. If it goes away then great. However, if it does not go away and actually continues to grow, I recommend you have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to look into this further and see what seems more likely. Best of luck!

This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. This will likely require sedation because of the location of the growth. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. There is no way of knowing for sure without an examination though this represents a reason to seek veterinary care. This is usually determined with an examination and a fine needle aspirate (FNA) or a biopsy. Treatment depends on the findings up to that point.
