Why does my dog still have soft stools after trying everything?

I'm sorry to hear that Marble is having soft stool. If parasites have been ruled out, then I would suggest a diet change. A low fat and highly digestible formula with a probiotic may improve his stool quality. If that does not help, then he will likely need further blood work or an abdominal ultrasound. Fecal testing may be needed and possibly bloodwork. Parasites and diet are the most common causes of diarrhea or soft stool in young dogs. It may be that her current diet does not agree with her. Certainly a food change can cause soft stool - even if you switch back to the previous food. It's important to remember, however, that there are many causes of soft stool in dogs, and you shouldn't assume that the cause was the food switch. You can try to revert to a bland diet - boiled white meat chicken and boiled white rice mixed in 50:50 proportions, and cooked with no added seasonings or fats - in small quantities at frequent intervals. For examine, offer about 1/4 cup every 2 - 4 hours. If the stool returns to normal over 24 hours, then transition slowly back to the original food. Intestinal parasites are certainly possible given Michelle's soft, bloody stool and weight loss. Other possible causes of these signs include inflammatory bowel disease, viruses, exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, among others. Since not every dewormer treats every parasites, your best bet is to take Michelle and a stool sample for her vet for evaluation to determine if deworming is indicated and if other conditions are suspected.
