My dog's penis has dried blood and pus. Could it be an infection?

Hi, I just noticed that my maltipoo's penis has something that looks like dried blood and then some pus. I noticed he has been licking it more frequently, but he has been drinking water and peeing, Could it be an infection? Thank you

Poor Kobe. Yes this appears to be a possible infection . He may have a cut there or perhaps even an abrasion that later became infected. I would try to get Kobe in to your vet soon to have this area investigated, cleaned with an antiseptic and then placed on oral +/- topical antibiotics to get rid of the infection. In the meantime I would recommend cleaning this with Betadine diluted 50:50 with warm water (if possible), and you can pick up an elizabethan collar (cone) to place on him so that he does not continue to lick this area and make it more irritated. I hope that your pet Kobe gets this area healed up soon. Take care.

Ideally, he should be examined by his veterinarian so that they can evaluate his penis, prepuce and look for evidence of stones or a UTI. Why is my dog's penis bleeding after a shower? Is it serious?

Some blood can be seen in unneutered dogs after they have been aroused and this is not too concerning if there are no other signs. But blood from the penis can also be caused by prostatic infections and urinary tract problems like stones or infections. If bosco continues to have blood regularly, has any trouble urinating , or is lethargic I would have him evaluated by a veterinarian.

My male dog has pus, scabs, discharge on his penis. Is it infected?

It is normal to have a small amount of discharge coming from the prepuce. However, if it is so excessive you are having to clean it every few hours, this is not normal. Your dog may have a preputial infection or a bladder or prostate infection. I would recommend taking Pluto to the vet to be checked out. He may need a course of antibiotics and/or a special antibacterial flush for his prepuce. In the meantime, continue to keep it as clean as you can and prevent him from licking as much as you can. My dog's penis is hanging out, bleeding, and won't go back in. Help!

This could be from an infection, tumor, or trauma to the penis. In order to solve this problem, the exact cause needs to be diagnosed, so the specific treatment can be given. The longer the penis is out, the more difficult it will be to treat, so I recommend taking him to a vet as soon as possible to get this treated. The best thing you can do for this at home is flush the area with cold water for five minutes, three times a day. Avoid putting any ointments or chemicals on it, because it will just be licked off and can make the condition worse. I hope that helps and Pinto gets better soon.

My dog's penis is bleeding. How do I stop the excessive bleeding?

If the bleeding from Lucky's penis has gotten worse and/or not resolved at all you may need to bring him back to your vet for a recheck. The penis and prepuce are very vascular (meaning they have lots of blood vessels) and so can bleed easily. If the bleeding hasn't subsided at all there may be a larger vessel that is damaged that may need to be sutured closed to prevent any further bleeding. I would be sure to keep the cone on Lucky as well until you get everything figured out so he won't lick excessively down there and cause more irritation.
