Why is my dog's penis red, bleeding, and his urine dark and smelly?

Although it is hard to say exactly what the problem is without seeing Taco in person, I can offer a few possibilities: The redness near the tip of his penis may indicate a mass (tumor) or a urethral prolapse. Failure to retract the penis for a prolonged period of time (more than 15 mins), is an emergency and needs to be treated as soon as possible at a veterinary hospital. It is possible a mass or urethral prolapse is causing the penis to not retract fully and this can alter his ability to urinate normally which is a concern. Blood from the penis can be a result of a urinarh tract infection, prostate issue, bladder stones, or trauma. I recommend having Nemo examined by a veterinarian and having a urine sample checked to see if an infection is present. He may need X-rays to rule out a bladder stone. This could be from an infection, tumor, or trauma to the penis. In order to solve this problem, the exact cause needs to be diagnosed, so the specific treatment can be given. The longer the penis is out, the more difficult it will be to treat, so I recommend taking him to a vet as soon as possible to get this treated. The best thing you can do for this at home is flush the area with cold water for five minutes, three times a day. Yes, I would be concerned about Guapo in that this redness and discharge can indicate an infection. From the pictures, it look like the discharge could be pus. He could have an infection of the prepuce (the penile sheath), or he could have a UTI or bladder stones causing these symptoms. I would gently wipe the area with warm water on a soft cloth, and have him seen by a vet. The vet can examine him and diagnose what is causing this redness and discharge so he can be treated. Taking him into a vet today would be best if possible. When dogs have infections, they can lick the area because it's uncomfortable to them, but licking it will make it worse. I would put an Ecollar on him if you notice him licking his penis area. You can make one at home or you can buy one at a pet shop. Bite wounds are serious because these can easily result in more trauma than what seems apparent and also in an infection. It is common for the penis to be exposed when a male is humping, but if it becomes too enlarged, they can have a problem with the penis not being able to slide back in the prepuce (the skin covering the penis). This is called paraphymosis. It can be a significant problem and can result in damage to the penis and pain. Normally, we will recommend using a sterile lubricant along the penis to get it to slide back in the prepuce. If the penis stays out of the prepuce it can become damaged. Max's penis is definitely irritated. Most importantly, make sure he is able to urinate normally. If he is straining to urinate or unable to produce urine or urinating blood , he may have a blocked bladder, and this is an emergency. Otherwise, continue to monitor him for signs of pain or discomfort. It may be a good idea to have a urine sample tested by your veterinarian to make sure he doesn't have a urinary tract infection or evidence of bladder stones.
