Why is my dog's penis bleeding and partially out after excitement?

You can try to put some water with diluted 3-4 tablespoons of sugar on it, spraying it and then it should be able to get back. First mix the sugar to the hot water then add cold water to make it cooler. If it doesn’t work you need to take him to the emergency vet.

This could be from an infection, tumor, or trauma to the penis. In order to solve this problem, the exact cause needs to be diagnosed, so the specific treatment can be given. The longer the penis is out, the more difficult it will be to treat, so I recommend taking him to a vet as soon as possible to get this treated. The best thing you can do for this at home is flush the area with cold water for five minutes, three times a day. It is common for the penis to be exposed when a male is humping, but if it becomes too enlarged, they can have a problem with the penis not being able to slide back in the prepuce (the skin covering the penis). This is called paraphymosis. It can be a significant problem and can result in damage to the penis and pain. Normally, we will recommend using a sterile lubricant along the penis to get it to slide back in the prepuce. If the penis stays out of the prepuce it can become damaged. Hello. Dog's penises should NOT be dripping blood at any time. Also, if his penis is enlarged and red and stuck out this is an emergency right away. Dripping blood can be a concern with a urinary tract infection, polyps, urethral obstruction (stones, etc). prostatic disease (cysts, infection, etc). These all require a vet visit, so I would get him to the vet as soon as possible, especially if he seems painful or cannot pee (postures to pee but nothing comes out). Good luck with Dingo.

It looks like Spanky might have a urethral prolapse in your picture. I would recommend having him examined by a veterinarian right away since the prolapsed tissue could become damaged and it could affect his ability to urinate normally. A veterinarian might place some suture around the penis if they are able to reduce the prolapse, but other times more in-depth surgery is needed.

If the bleeding from Lucky's penis has gotten worse and/or not resolved at all you may need to bring him back to your vet for a recheck. The penis and prepuce are very vascular (meaning they have lots of blood vessels) and so can bleed easily. If the bleeding hasn't subsided at all there may be a larger vessel that is damaged that may need to be sutured closed to prevent any further bleeding. I would be sure to keep the cone on Lucky as well until you get everything figured out so he won't lick excessively down there and cause more irritation.

Other possible causes include an injury or tumor on the penis or the penile sheath, a bladder or prostate infection, bladder stones, kidney disease, or even a systemic bleeding disorder. I would recommend taking him to a vet for an exam - they will probably want to collect a urine sample for testing, check his prostate during a rectal exam, and examine his penis closely outside the sheath to look for any problems. From there, x-rays and ultrasound can be used to look at the prostate, if needed.
