My dog pees beside the pee pad since we got a new dog. Why?

I would recommend to rule out something like an infection in Presley's bladder before you give up on her. Since she can't talk, you don't know the reasoning behind this behavior. The veterinarian will look at her urine sample to see if there are any abnormalities which may cause this behavior. Go from there. If it does look to be more behavioral, speak with a trainer, read some books about housebreaking difficult dogs. Most dogs can be properly housebroken but not all learn in the same fashion. If this is a relatively new problem, Nikki may have an underlying medical condition - like a urinary tract infection. I suggest you have her examined by your vet and have a urine test done to check for infection or other underlying medical problem. If you can rule out a medical problem then you can assume it is behavioral, in which case, you should consult with a professional, in-home dog trainer. It is very hard to potty train a dog this age without professional help.

Since Molly cannot talk, we will never know. Dogs are individuals and can be quirky just like humans. I recommend to go outside with her every time she potties to make sure that she uses the bathroom appropriately and so you don’t have a mess to clean up. If the stool appears abnormal or she appears to have problems with incontinence, I recommend to have Molly examined by her veterinarian. Best of luck.

This is likely a behavioral issue that will be a hard habit to break. He is probably being territorial, and being intact will increase his behaviors. You can try neutering him, removing the female, or confining him when he cannot be monitored.

Belle should avoid areas where there may be unvaccinated dogs, but you will need to take her outside to potty train her and it may not go as well if you try to wait until she is fully vaccinated. Keep her on a leash and avoid contact with other dogs. Belle may get confused if there are pee pads indoors and she may use them. I doubt she will help Molly go outside but you could work on potty training the two of them together.

I can't think of anything wrong with what he is doing. Is it possible that it is harder for him to squat on the pee pad inside? Maybe it shifts around or is in a tight location? As dogs age, they can develop arthritis that makes it uncomfortable to posture to urinate and defecate and sometimes you see these changes. It may be a good idea to have him checked over by a vet.

If these behavior changes have taken place directly in concern with the surgical procedure, I would first want to make sure there is no post-operative medical issue taking place. It is not common to see urinary tract infections shortly after a procedure that could easily be the cause of the problems you are seeing. Although the pooping in inappropriate locations may not have anything to do with the urinary tract, Molly may be in too much discomfort to necessarily care about following the rules in general. Conversely, it is possible that the removal of hormone producing organs in the body are causing a behavior change resulting in problems you are witnessing. This would be very uncommon however, and I think that first ruling out the medical issue would be the prudent way to approach this.
