Why does my dog pee inside when my boyfriend puts on her leash?

Your little girl sounds a bit nervous. Some dogs that are a little more submissive in nature can be nervous urinators. Meaning that when someone approaches them or they get excited they may urinate. This often gets better as they get older and gain more confidence, but can take some work. Can you try to change how you approach her with the leash? You could try to get down on her level with the leash behind your back and ask her to come to you instead of you going to her. You can also try distracting her with a treat while you put on the leash. If it seems to be related to approaching her head you can try having her wear a harness that way you dont have to approach her head. These are all some general ideas but you really just have to find out what her trigger is and change your routine to what works best for her. Hopefully with confidence it will improve with time. The flip side would be if she is urinating in the house at other points in time, then this would be more concerning for a physical problem such as a UTI that would prompt evaluation by your family vet. When you walk them and they’re on a leash they become anxious and nervous about going to the bathroom out in the open and on the leash. My best advice for you is to try and walk him frequently so he gets used to being on the leash. If he is able to hold his urine and bowel movements then it shouldn’t be a big issue. He will need to lease go to the bathroom every 10 to 12 hours. When you do walk him on the leash and he potties use lots of positive reinforcement like praise and treats to let him know you are proud of him and did a good job. It's also possible that this is a behavior issue, but I would want to rule-out a medical problem before retraining him not to pee in the house. Other signs of a urinary disease include an increase in urinating, urinating many times in small amounts, straining to urinate, blood in urine and an increase in drinking. It's best to have a vet evaluate Thor. They can do a few quick tests to see if anything is wrong and advise the necessary treatment. It's also good to ensure that the area where Thor has peed is cleaned well with an odor removing product (can find some good products at the pet store). I'm sorry to hear of your problems with Borkem. If possible, I would try to start associating a word with the act of peeing and pooping. The best way to do this would be to take Borkem to an area that you can have him off leash and watching him carefully. When he pees or poops, say "good pee!" immediately and reward him with a high-value treat such as hot dogs or cheese. You will need to do this consistently over several days to create the association between the command and the act. Once Borkem understands that you would like him to pee or poop when you say pee or poop (or whatever command you choose to use) it will be easier to communicate what you want from him when he is on a leash. Sometimes they will choose who to walk with due to feeling safe but also due to dominance. He may feel you boyfriend is more of the alpha than you. I would start working with him on other tricks and teach him other behaviors as well. I would also consider taking him to a group training class just you and him this will help him bond with you and learn that you are also the “boss”. Also, there are trainers that will come to your house to work specifically for your situation. Finally, I would keep trying with the leash walk. You may try to go for a walk with you holding the leash and your boyfriend next to you. Overtime, have your boyfriend walk further away from y’all. It sounds as if Lily needs a refresher course in housebreaking! Put her on a leash and take her outside to her designated spot. Do not walk around. Just stand there and repeat "go outside" or a similar phrase. As soon as she starts to go, repeat "go outside" and praise "good dog!" as she goes. When she is finished, bring her directly back inside. If she does not go after a reasonable amount of time, bring her in but do not remove the leash. Attach it to your belt loop and keep her with you. When you see her start to circle or sniff, take her right outdoors again and repeat the process. If she does mess in the house, do not scold her unless you actually catch her in the act. In that case, say "NO!" and take her right outside so she can finish her business there. Tell her to "go outside" and praise as she finishes. Keep her on the leash, or in her crate, at all times until she starts to let you know she has to go.
