Why is my well-trained adult dog peeing in bed and shedding more?

Poor pup! When a dog who is housebroken starts having accidents in the home, it can be a sign of a medical illness such as a UTI or bladder stones. I would take your girl into the vet for a physical exam, blood tests, and a urinalysis. The vet can diagnose if she does have a UTI or bladder stones, and can treat her for it.

This is common time of year for dogs to "blow their coat" as a new type of hair comes it. This can also happen when switching from a puppy to adult coat. Unless you're seeing bald patches or he's itching, I wouldn't worry about the shedding. As far as the urinating, that does have me more concerned and I'd recommend a vet visit to rule out a medical problem and then restarting house training if no medical problem is found.

There are numerous health conditions that can cause increased drinking and urination, including urinary tract infection, kidney disease, liver disease, Cushing's disease, Addison's disease, behavioral conditions, even certain cancers. Shadow may have urinary incontinence, which is not uncommon in female dogs. I recommend having Shadow evaluated by your primary veterinarian, who may recommend blood and/or urine tests to see if she has an underlying reason for her increased drinking and urination. The most likely fluid in a spayed female dog would be urine. When a dog dribbles urine or leaves spots of urine on the bedding I often think about urinary tract infections. Older dogs can also develop urinary sphyncter incompetence (or a weak sphyncter), making it difficult for them to hold their bladder overnight. There are also less common causes, for instance bladder stones or endocrine diseases. Your veterinarian will likely offer to run a urinalysis, a urine culture, and maybe some bloodwork on Sassy to determine what might be causing the urine leaking. There are antibiotics we use for urinary tract infections and if it appears to be loss of bladder control there are medications to help with that as well. A visit to the vet should help you sort out the cause and hopefully get Sassy acting more like herself. I hope this was helpful!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! She may be leaking urine in her sleep from having urinary incontinence for example. Otherwise, other possibilities include a urinary tract infection, stones, among other possibilities. Her skin may be dry due to allergies for example. It really comes down to figuring out what is causing her allergies so that they can be treated or the specific allergen avoided. There are many things that can cause allergies though in most cases they can be broken down into 3 big categories: flea, food and environmental allergies. Allergies are usually worked up in a stepwise fashion starting with flea allergies as this is the easiest and cheapest to take care of. If not on a flea preventative, then it would be a good idea to get started on one. If already on one then it would be a good idea to change to something else (there are many new products out in the market). If not improved in 1-3 months then it is time to move on and check for food allergies by switching to a novel diet (new protein and new carbohydrate). If that does not seem to be the issue then you are left out having to check for environmental allergies which require blood and/or skin tests. Allergies can be very frustrating to deal with at first but so rewarding at the end when we are able to treat them effectively!

First make sure its urine and not saliva. If it is urine, then Its likely Jasmine either has urinary incontinence or a urinary tract infection, or both. At her age there are several things it can be. Your vet can collect a urine sample to check for a urinary tract infection. They can always draw some blood to check her kidneys and blood sugar and for Cushings disease. All these can cause an increase in drinking and urination which will lead to accidents. If all of that is normal, than she may be getting incontinent and they have medication for that also!
