Why do dogs always pee and poop on walks, even after going inside?

You may need to spend more time with him outside. Wait him out, and when he does go poop outside, give him lots of praise and give him a treat. You may also want to consider crate training him. Get him a crate that is big enough for him to stand up and turn around in. Make it comfortable, in a nice quiet place, with his blankets and toys. If he's stubborn and won't go outside, put him in his crate and close it. If he cries, give him a few minutes to settle down, but if he persists, he may be letting you know he needs to go potty. By giving him just enough room, but not too much, your giving him a 'den' so to speak. Dogs are very reluctant to soil the place where they sleep, so by confining him, you're presenting him with a choice; ask to go out and get the job done, or possible make a mess and have to be stuck with it for a little while. When he has gone potty, put him in his crate but don't shut it. The presence of his blankets and a toy will reinforce to him that the crate is a nice place that is all his own.

Your puppy is young to be fully house broken, so be patient. If he is busy playing when outside they sometimes forget to poop until they come back in and relax. I recommend you bring him back in, out him in his crate for 5-10 minutes then take him out again to poop. Take him to the same area to pee and poop and reward him with a treat when he goes outside. Please leave him in his crate if you can't watch him so he doesn't learn to poop in the house. Most dogs are not fully housebroken until they are four months or older. The two most common reasons for this problem are either a medical problem or a behavioral problem. I would recommend starting with having your veterinarian check a fecal sample on Chloe. My dog starting having accidents like you describe when she was around a year old, and we found a microscopic intestinal parasite. Once we treated it, her accidents stopped. The other possibility is that Chloe is holding her stool on a walk because she wants the walk to continue. Preference- Some dogs prefer sidewalks or roads and will wait until you get to that kind of surface to do their business. Timing- you’d be surprised at how predictable a dog’s potty schedule can be. When I lived in an apartment, my dog would go potty exactly 8 minutes into our walk- regardless of where we were. So if you’d prefer he go on the grass, try changing up your walk pattern so that you’re on the grass at his usual “time”. Best of luck to you and Cooper!

The best way to do this is by increasing the frequency of the walks and when Bogo finally goes outside, you should praise her and give her a treat so that she associates doing it outside with something positive. She will learn that this is the correct thing but it will take time and patience. Best of luck!

Please do not ever, ever rub your dog's nose in his pee or poop. He has no idea what you're doing and why. Also, he does not "throw a temper tantrum." Kids do that; dogs don't. Put him on a leash and take him outside to his designated spot. Do not walk around. Just stand there and repeat "go outside" or a similar phrase. As soon as he starts to go, repeat "go outside" and praise "good dog!" as he goes. When he is finished, or if it appears that he is not going to go, bring him inside but do not remove the leash, even if he has done his business. Attach it to your belt loop and keep him with you. Don’t let him out of your sight! When you see him start to circle or sniff, take him right outdoors again and repeat the process. If he does mess in the house, do not scold him unless you actually catch him in the act. In that case, say "NO!" and take him right outside. Tell him to "go outside" and praise as he finishes. If he does do his business in the house and no one is right there to correct him, he will have no reason to believe that he is doing something wrong. Some dogs will have excessive bowel movements when they go for a walk. It's likely due to a combination of excitement, exercise and scent marking. Unfortunately, there's not much you can do to change the behavior. Things that you can do that may address this and may help would be to add a daily probiotic to try to keep the stool more firm, switch the diet- I recommend a brand called Royal Canin because it is very easy to break down and pets tend to have good stool quality on this food, play with him before a walk to get some of the energy out so he is not as excitable, and lastly, neutering him may also help to make him less excitable.
