My pug's testicle looks pear-shaped. Should I take him to the vet?

Yes, your dog's testicles should be approximately the same size. One can be a tiny bit smaller, but there should not be a huge difference. Your dog needs to be seen by a veterinarian as he could have a testicular tumor, a testicular torsion, an abscess or orchitis or brucellosis. Please take him to a vet ASAP.

It certainly looks like your dog has completely normal and healthy testicles, as far as I can possibly say without palpating them. It is quite normal that one testicle is a little bit bigger than the other. The skin looks normally pale pink, ie not red and inflamed, and the scrotum appears to have normal hair. So, I do not think you have to worry about Bear's testicles being abnormal or diseased.

What you may be seeing is his bulbus glandis. They are two glands located at the base of the penis on both sides. They function during mating to effect the tie while mounting a female. This is normal and likely no cause for concern. The pigmentation of his scrotum may also be normal. You can have him seen by your veterinarian to discuss any concerns regarding either.

Check the other testicle in approximately the same location where you found the lump on the first testicle. If you can find another one like it, then you are feeling the head of the so-called epididymis , which is the sperm-holding part of the testicle and belongs there. If the lump you noticed is a third lump (ie there is none like it in the other testicle and you can also find two identical lumps in the testicles) then this needs to be examined by the vet as it may be a tumor, cyst or little abscess.

That's hard to say without being able to examine and monitor the testicles. It's possible this is congenital. If Digby is not a breeding dog, an undeveloped testicle is not a big concern (though I do recommend to have him neutered). A less common cause of a size difference is a torsion or infection.
