Why are my dog's paws red and licking after running on asphalt?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

We took Nutella to the park and she ran on the hard (not hot) asphalt. In between two of her paws her skin is red and she keeps licking them. I cannot get her to stop. Any suggestions?

She could have allergies or an infection. You could soak her paw in a warm Epsom salt solution and see if that helps. Otherwise, she should be examined by your vet. She may need an antibiotic, anti-histamine, and/or a corticosteroid to treat.
