Why won't my dog's paw sore heal? Swelling and strange growth.

This looks like it could be a viral papilloma, or it could be something like granulation tissue (which is a part of the healing process). Since there has been a change in the appearance of the sore I would recommend rechecking with your vet to see what they would recommend as the next step. They might want to biopsy this area or they might recommend continuing the current treatments for a bit longer if this seems like granulation tissue in person.

If this sore has persisted and does not seem to be getting any better despite your efforts to manage it, I would recommend Ace see his veterinarian soon. Your veterinarian may take a small sample of the area to determine what it is and if it is concerning or not. Treatment will depend on what the diagnosis is. If your veterinarian suspects it is infected, Ace may need to be on antibiotics or other medications as needed. I hope this helps!

Bodie's lesions on his paw could certainly be related to an underlying environmental or food allergy that resulted in the development of a severe superficial and possible deep pyoderma, which can be difficult to treat if the bacteria present are resistant to normal antibiotics. Other potential causes could include fungal infections (depending on your location), and neoplasia (cancer). For lesions that do not respond to typical therapy with antibiotics and anti-itch medications (such as corticosteroids, Apoquel, Atopica), it may be necessary to perform a culture/sensitivity of the lesions to determine what type of bacteria present (if any) and what antibiotic it is sensitive to, or even a biopsy which could help rule-out certain fungal infections or neoplasia. I would recommend having Bodie re-evaluated by a veterinarian if the sores do not resolve to determine what the appropriate next step will be.

This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. If this isn't resolving, I doubt that it's a simple "cut". Couple of things to think about: if Zoey is licking this (which it appears to me that she might be, given that the skin is darkly pigmented) this could be something called a lick granuloma. Typically the treatment for that is to keep the dog from licking, and investigate whether there is an underlying allergy. At this point it's reasonable to consider taking a biopsy of the area, which may help to get an exact diagnosis. I would also consider checking for mites (mange) and even ringworm, which is a fungal infection.

This could be due to an infection and possibly a foreign body reaction. A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is essential to confirm these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately.
