Dog paw pads raw from asphalt, licking. Should I medicate or vet?

Ouch, that's a big enough tear it should be seen by your vet. At the very least they can clip back the hair, thoroughly clean it, and then provide you with pain medications and antibiotics for Ave so it doesn't get infected. Until you can get into your vet, it is best to keep the foot clean and dry and to NOT let him lick it. Licking will introduce bacteria that will cause further inflammation and potential infection. You can use an Elizabethan (cone) collar to keep him from doing so. I would also limit all activity to leashed walks only for potty breaks to prevent him from putting more weight on the injured pad which can lead to more pain.

Poor thing. I don't think you need to go to the vet right away unless Thor is constantly bothering at it or seems uncomfortable. You can try doing 5-10 minute epsom salt baths twice a day for 2 days first and keeping it nice and dry between the soaks, and making sure he doesn't lick it (an e-collar is the best way to do that). If it looks worse at any point, or still looks like this after 2 days, then it will be time for a vet appointment. good luck!

There is nothing you can do other than keep your dog from licking the lesion so it does not get worse. This looks like a nasty hot spot, but only a hands-on exam can determine what this is and how it is to be treated. Please schedule a recheck with your veterinarian.

If she is licking at the paw, it most likely is painful. Dogs tend to lick areas in order to sooth the pain. They also do this in an attempt to reduce inflammation, but ultimately it results in the exact opposite. Unfortunately from the picture, I can't get a perfect idea of what's going on and I don't know exactly how / what type of injury occurred. Thus, I don't whether or not you should be seeking medical attention for Coco. Assuming the injury isn't serious, the most important thing you can do is prevent further self-inflicted harm while still allowing the area that is affect to be open and clean. In order to do this, Coco will need to wear a cone. You can obtain one at some pet stores, online, or at a vet office without an appointment. Healing might go faster if you went to the vet to obtain some anti-inflammatory medication, and so he can assess the need to potentially add antibiotics. Be sure to keep the area covered with a plastic bag or sock when Coco is going outside to walk in areas that are dirty. Any open areas on the foot exposed to dirty areas are likely to result in a worsened or delayed healing. Hope this makes sense.

I would recommend that you have Pepper checked out by a vet. The area you circled looks very irritated, and the slight staining of the hair around it may indicate that she has a yeast infection. You can continue the Polysporin ointment twice a day. No peroxide or alcohol. She may need to wear booties if she goes out in wet grass or dirt. Unfortunately, she will need to wear the e-collar until it is completely healed to prevent infection and decreased healing time. Paw pads can take 3-6 weeks to completely heal :(

That paw does look inflamed. If your home care is not working after a week, your pup needs to be examined. Bacterial and yeast infections are common in the paws. It could also be skin mites or allergies. Likely Odin will need some oral medications. He should also be wearing an elizabethan collar at all times to prevent any further licking. I hope this helps.

I think you are doing a great job, and I don't see a need to take her to the vet. I'd put a cone on her and monitor the area for signs of infection which include redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, and pus. If you do see signs of infection, I'd take her into the vet.
