Why do dogs suddenly get aggressive at the dog park after greeting?

It's possible something startled one or both dogs at their last trip (playing too rough with a strange dog, getting nipped, etc) and that they're a bit more on guard. If your dogs are not spayed/neutered, hormones could also be coming into play, causing a change in behavior as they go through their teenage months. Taking small steps, such as playing near the park but not going in it, going to the park when there are fewer dogs that may cause stress, or even just finding other ways to play and interact, etc may help, however if the problem continues, a refresher course in a structured class with a trainer or working one on one may be beneficial in making sure Max and Ava stay on track for good behavior.

These types of behavior can improve though this does require in person training with the help of a qualified dog trainer. I would encourage you to contact a dog trainer that can work with you and Tova in person to really take care of this behavior. If Hondo gets into a fight every time he's at the dog park it would be best to discontinue going. For some dogs, the dog park is a high-stress place and it may not be for them. Other ways to exercise can include solo walks, fetch in secluded areas, and even focused activities that don't involve other dogs. If he's having trouble with the new puppy, or is severely dog aggressive/reactive it would be best to talk with a trainer or behaviorist in your area that can work with you on a plan to help get him more desensitized to other dogs, and potentially doing OK with some. In the mean time, if play gets too rough or one or both dogs seems agitated, taking a break and separating both dogs until they've calmed down is best. Make sure not to leave them unsupervised together as even the sweetest dog can accidentally injure another! Since aggression toward other dogs is a complex issue, it is best to work with a trainer who can supervise your techniques and plan in person.

Try separating them for a day or so, then taking them for a walk together. I hate to hear that about Archie. Unfortunately it's impossible to know why he is doing this without analyzing his body language. Canine aggression is a complex behavior as it can stem from dominance, possessiveness, fear, anxiety, resource guarding or a combination. Unless you are very familiar with reading canine body language and training, I recommend to work with a professional trainer to achieve best rests. Certainly familiarizing yourself with canine body language and dog training can help you to recognize what your pet is trying to say before a bite happens. You can find many books written on the topic. Once you understand the underlying cause, appropriate behavior modification can begin. Best of luck.

There are many possible reasons for this, I'm afraid - aggression is a complex behavior issue, so it can be hard to provide a succinct answer in this format. Many dogs develop aggression issues related to fear or anxiety around the age of 2-3 when they reach social maturity, so it's possible that this may be the issue. Or, since I see that Chucky is a bit older than that, he may have a medical problem causing him to be painful or uncomfortable - this is a common reason for "new" aggression in a previously friendly dog. I would recommend having Chucky examined by a vet as a good first step - he/she can check for anything that may be causing him pain or making him not feel well, and get him started on treatment if needed. If everything is normal medically, then it would be best to make an appointment with a veterinary behaviorist to help you determine what is causing the aggression - he/she can observe your dogs in person and also give you a step-by-step treatment plan to work on the issue.
