My dog won't stop panting. When should I take them to the vet?

I see that Sammy is an older boy. I would be concerned that these signs could be due to something serious like heart disease. This can be common in older dogs. It could be a respiratory infection. I would take him into the vet first thing in the morning to get checked out. Best of luck.

Excessive panting is concerning for a lung, heart, or blood problem. Considering these all have potential to be serious diseases, it's best to have Hershey evaluated by a vet sometime soon. While panting is a way dogs expel heat, there could be something else going on with him that is making him pant heavily. Panting can be a sign of discomfort or pain. It also can be do to an underlying metabolic problem. I would recommend taking Trouble in to your vet for an exam to see if he needs blood work or potentially pain medication for discomfort.

This is a quite concerning presentation. Differentials are many including pain/discomfort (which has to be quite pronounced) and cardiac and respiratory diseases. It is anyway a presentation that usually requires an immediate check up, so I would recommend to take Sammy to your vet asap.

Hello there. Sorry Eron is having this issue. This is not an emergency service so if you are really worried about him you should always take him to a veterinarian right away! That being said, dogs can pant for many reasons. 1. Cooling themselves off 2. Pain, injury 3. Underlying medical condition like heart disease, thyroid disease, cushing's disease, respiratory disease, etc 4. Stress 5. Excitement So, it may nothing or it may a sign of something serious. You know your dog best. If he seems like he can't get comfortable and he seems stressed then you should get him to a vet right away. If he seems otherwise comfortable and he is just lying there panting he is probably fine and you should continue to monitor him and if he keeps doing it then you should have him checked out by your vet. Peanut's panting could be due to overheating, a respiratory infection, an allergic reaction, or pain. I'm not sure what the weather is like where you are, but try moving her to a cool area to see if that helps with the panting. If it doesn't, I would be concerned that she could be suffering from a respiratory infection, allergic reaction, or is in pain. Keep an eye on her, and if the panting continues overnight, take her into a vet in the morning. Should she go into respiratory distress, becomes very lethargic, and/or refuse to eat, rush her into an ER vet right away. Good luck, I hope this helps!

These can be symptoms of many serious medical issues, anxiety, fear, pain, neurologic disease, infection, etc. I would recommend that you have him checked out by a vet to see what could be going on. After a thorough physical exam and discussion of his recent history, the vet may recommend diagnostics, such as blood work, x-rays, ultrasound, etc. to diagnose the cause.
