Why is my dog panting with red belly skin and a pink protruding penis?

Hello. This puppy needs medical attention. She appears to have a serious skin condition and should have a skin scrape to check for mange. If she is potbellied and has low energy, she may have other internal parasites. Some intestinal parasites can cause anemia as well as gastrointestinal problems. Anemia is a low red blood cell count which causes weakness and lack of energy. Please have her examined, tested for parasites-both internal and external- and given the appropriate treatments. Red skin usually indicates inflammation of the skin, but can also be seen with hyperthermia (excessively hot) and infections in the blood stream. If the skin was suddenly red, then I would be concerned about infection or hyperthermia. Hyperthermia can happen to a dog exposed to a hot environment, or if they ate certain plants (hops, marijuana, etc.) or drugs. If the skin has been red for a few days, then it's likely inflamed from something she had contact with or the environment. However, they usually don't act anxious with this condition, so it's likely that something else is happening. It's best to have a vet check her as soon as possible to see if it's a serious condition. I get concerned with things a lot sooner with such a young puppy. The watery blood would make me recommend an exam by itself. I would want a urine sample to see if there is blood in the urine. The pustules have me concerned about a bacterial infection. I would recommend taking him in for an evaluation by a veterinarian. He might need to be on antibiotics or at least a topical medication. Poor Volt! The red lesion in the picture could be a result of a skin infection from underlying allergies (to fleas, food or the environment), ringworm or mange. If Volt is highly uncomfortable from the skin lesions, this could cause him to breathe slightly faster, but as you mention, heat can do the same in some cases. If Volt seems to be having difficulty breathing, is taking more than 35-40 breaths per minute while resting (respiratory rate is often higher while active and excited), or is unable to rest, he will need an urgent vet visit today. Otherwise, you can try bathing him in a gentle oatmeal-based dog shampoo to try to ease any mild skin discomfort and take him to the vet tomorrow for evaluation. It is very difficult to tell from a photo exactly what is going on here. I am concerned if these areas could be bleeding under the skin. From the photos the areas don't appear raised which is why I am concerned they could be this type of bruisng, also called ecchymosis. If you press your finger onto the area and remove it, and there is not a white spot, then this is a sign this is ecchymosis and your dog should be seen right away because it could have a bleeding disorder. If you press against the red area and when you remove your finger it blanches (turns white) and then turns red again, then it is less concerning in terms of the urgency of being seen and is more likely an actual skin issue. If the area is raised or crusted then this could be inflammation due to infection with bacteria or yeast. We can have immune system over-reactions that can result in red inflammed areas of skin. We can also in more rare cases see cancers that can affect the skin. A vet can examine the skin and determine what testing may be indicated- this could include cytology of the skin, culture of the skin, biopsy, or bloodwork depending on their exam findings. Hello. I am sorry for your concerns about Sumo. I am concerned that he may be in quite a bit of pain. Panting is a strong sign of this. The accumulation of gas in the intestines from either infection or inflammation may be the source of this pain as well as the tense abdomen. Sumo needs to see a veterinarian soon. If this is a volvulus or stomach twist, his life may be in danger, but regardless of the cause, he needs to seen tonight. I hope all is well soon.
