My dog has a painful, squishy lump after an injury. Is it an abscess?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Staffordshire Terrier | Female | unspayed

My dog has come out in a lump 2 days ago. Have kept it wrapped. It's easily moving like filled with liquid. Painfull. She did have a impalement of some sort but nothing inbedded. I am currently trying to clean the wound etc but is red due to being kept wrapped up with limited airflow.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Hayleigh. I recommend that she sees her veterinarian. I worry that she has an infection under the skin known as an abscess. This can happen if she sustained a puncture wound. This introduces bacteria under the skin. The initial skin wounds heals over trapping the infection underneath. You need to see if this is the case or if something else is causing the swelling. I hope this information helps!
