My dog has painful, growing head bumps; antibiotics aren't working.

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Cocker Spaniel | Male | unneutered | 5 years and 8 months old | 30 lbs

My dog has abnormal large bumps on the back of his head that have been growing for about 3 days now and they are extremely uncomfortable for him. He's been on antibiotics and prednisone, but nothing is helping.

Poor Sunny! I'm wondering if these bumps are cysts or abscesses, and they may need to be drained sterilely to treat them in addition to the medications. Because they are growing bigger and Sunny is extremely uncomfortable, I would bring him back into the vet tomorrow for an exam.
