My dog is in pain, snorting, and struggling to move. Vet emergency?

Poor Archie. I am sorry that he seems to be in pain. Pets don't typically get constipated and if he were he would be seen straining to poop and crying out during that time. Constipation is treated by increasing your pets water intake (subcutaneous fluids if it's severe) and getting an enema placed in the rectum. To check his temperature you have to place a thermometer in his rectum (part way) as this is he most accurate reading. Normal temperature in a dog is 100-102.5 degrees F. Pets that have a fever rarely scream out in pain. It sounds like Archie has another source of his pain that may only be found by having him examined by a vet in person. We want to get to the bottom of this quickly, because it sounds like it is urgent that he get help with this. I would also discourage you from giving him any over the counter people pain medication as well l, because these are quite toxic to pets and can cause liver and/or kidney failure after just one dose. I would recommend feeling Archie all over to see if you can determine where his pain is coming from. Then getting him seen by your vet to get him treated based on the source of the pain and the underlying cause. I hope your fur baby gets better soon. Best of luck.

Labored breathing and vomiting are very concerning signs. In an older, large-breed dog like your girl, I would be worried about bloat as a possible cause of her symptoms - this can be a life-threatening emergency, so needs to be treated right away. Many other things can also cause vomiting, including pancreatitis, liver or kidney disease, exposure to something toxic, or an intestinal obstruction. Based on your description, I would recommend taking her to the emergency vet tonight - she may have a serious problem that can't wait until morning.

I'm a very concerned about Max based on your description of his symptoms. He could have a very painful abdomen if his back is arched, and it's very serious he won't eat, vomits, and is breathing loudly. He could be suffering from a foreign body or pancreatitis causing his symptoms. What you have described is a medical emergency, and he needs to see a vet now. If Little is doing as poorly as you describe, this is a medical emergency and she needs to see a vet right away. She could be seriously injured and in pain, and it's concerning that she won't move and has trouble walking. There is nothing you can do for her at home, she has to have veterinary care right away. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. I think he should be seen by a vet. An arched back can be caused by pain, which could be in the muscle, bone or spine, or belly. Belly pain could be from inflammation of a major organ or from something they ingested (like a food intolerance or a foreign body). After physical examination, the vet may recommend x-rays or ultrasound to see what is going on inside the abdomen, and/or bloodwork to look values of major organs like kidneys and liver. Then once they have a better idea of the cause of Kody's symptoms, they can discuss treatments.

He needs to be examined by a veterinarian right away. Your vet can take an x-ray of his chest to evaluate his lungs and airway. He could have pneumonia, asthma, heart disease, or fluids in his chest. Please call your vet immediately and schedule an appointment.
