My dog has pain, shaking, yellow poop. Vet unsure: gut or spine?

If I had to guess based on your description I would say disc herniation. In my experience dogs that have primary gastrointestinal disease or pancreatitis causing abdominal pain do not have a normal appetite. A veterinarian who is able to physically examine Beatrice in person and has access to all diagnostic results would be able to make the best assessment.

I think it's probably time to visit your vet ASAP as it sounds like Sugar is definitely experiencing pain. If she is very sensitive to new foods, I would be concerned something such as pancreatitis is causing her severe pain (and may show other symptoms such as diarrhea, vomiting, etc), or other causes like stuck food, etc. Until you can get to your vet, keeping her comfortable and resting, and on her regular diet strictly (or bland foods of boiled chicken and rice) is best to limit any further GI upset until the cause can be found.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor guy! Pancreatitis can cause vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia and belly pain. It is a cause of vomiting and diarrhea but it isn't the only cause. Other causes are: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections, toxin ingestion, IBD, food allergy/intolerance or reaction to eating something outside or a new treat/food/people food. Since he has been low grade vomiting now for 2 days it is best to have him seen soon if it continues. It is encouraging that he is eating. I would be sure you fasted him for 12-24 hours then resume feeding with a very bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice. Make the meals very small. Only offer small amounts of water. If he is lethargic, won't eat and the vomiting continues even on a low grade scale he should be seen before the weekend. I hope this helps and I wish you all the best!

If the kyphosis is new, I would be concerned the symptoms are related. since Nutmeg is not responding to treatment, I recommend to preform further diagnostics. Based upon your description, I would be concerned Nutmeg has abdominal pain, spinal pain or perhaps pressure on her internal organs. Top differentials include: pancreatitis hepatitis (many potential causes) foreign object in gastrointestinal tract intervertebral disc disease or injury internal abscess fluid in abdomen tumor/cancer in abdomen Some potential diagnostics including imaging (ultrasound would be preferred over x-rays), bloodwork and a blood test specifically for the pancreatic enzymes like a CPL. Pmcreatitis is very painful, so the shaking could be interpreted as an expression of pain. Unfortunately Tramadol does not work very well for pain, not as good as in people. The Cerenia works a lot better for visceral pain. Being lethargic is also normal with pancreatitis. Under normal circumstances we hospitalize dogs with pancreatitis, however this is not always possible depending on the area where you live and whether such facilities are available. If Bombon deteriorates or gets much worse you will need to take her to a vet before Monday, or a Pet ER.

Poor Abby. I am concerned that she is having a different problem than the pancreatitis. My biggest concern is that she may have a inflammed disc in her neck that is cause her a lot of pain and/or some neurological issues. I would have your vet do an exam and see if she needs some anti-inflammatories and pain meds. Your vet will be able to do some spinal X-rays if needed.
