My dog is in pain after spay surgery. What can I give for relief?

Unfortunately, there are no safe OTC pain relievers for dogs. Many are toxic for dogs and can be fatal if given. I'm not sure what kind of surgery your dog has, perhaps a spay, but she should likely not still be in pain three days before taking out her staples. It's also concerning that she won't eat, which could also be due to pain. This pain and anorexia could be an indication of a post surgical complication. Her symptoms are serious enough that she needs medical treatment now. There will be a vet on call for emergencies in your area. Ibuprofen is highly toxic to dogs, and even one 200mg pill tablet is enough to cause damage to internal organs in your dog. Tylenol and aspirin are both toxic. If she is in pain, unfortunately there are no OTC pain medications you can give her. Should she appear to be in severe pain, I'd take her into an ER vet now. Otherwise, keep her confined to limit her movement, and keep her as comfortable as possible until you get her into the vet in the morning. Best of luck.

All sleeping meds are prescription only, this is something you will need to ask your vet to prescribe you. more importantly your vet should have discharged her with pain killers, you should give him a call and request pain killers for her.

Unfortunately I do not recommend giving any over the counter pain medications to dogs. While aspirin is available in some pet stores and technically can be given to dogs it can easily cause stomach upset and if Koda was recently given any kind of NSAID medication it could cause serious problems. It’s also not the best for pain! I would recommend calling your vet to see if they can refill the pain medication for Koda since she’s still sore. Sometimes a warm compress can also help with comfort.
