My dog gets scared after accidents. How can I help her overcome fear?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed

Whenever she does something wrong (ex. Poops on floor) she gets scared and thinks we will hurt her. We think she may have been hit my my aunts ex boyfriend, the only time she is scared is when she does something bad, she isn't scared around the ex. When she poops in the bedroom, I clean it up and tell her it's alright and try to call her over to come out the door, but she doesn't come, how can I get her to stop being scared?

Instead of focusing on the bad things, try to be positive when she does good things to give her more confidence. Doing an obedience class together may help improve your bond and make her feel more secure
