My dog has an oozing cheek bump. How to get vet care for anxious dog?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | English Bulldog | Female | spayed | 4 years and 2 months old | 64 lbs

Hi! I have a 5 year old female English Bulldog. She’s healthy in everyway but gets very stressed when she’s in vulnerable situations: her throat closes up and she cant breathe. Taking het to the clinic’s risky. she has a cyst-looking, red and infected bump on her cheek. Its been oozing pus for over a month, even with antibiotic ointment and disinfectant sprays. There is quite a big hole on the pimple and I drain it at least 3 times a day. What could it be? Should we risk taking her to the vet?

I would recommend having the lesion evaluated by exam and needle cytology to make sure it is not a mass. Options for her stress level could include asking your vet for an oral sedative/anti anxiety medication that you can give her before bringing her to the clinic or finding a house call vet in your area that can come to your house to look at it. I hope this helps and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!
