My dog stopped eating, lost weight, and drinks water until she vomits.

It sounds like Suzi needs to visit a vet for an examination and work-up. Drinking more water can be a sign of kidney disease, liver disease, diabetes, Cushing's disease, etc. Your vet can run some lab-work to diagnose and then determine the best way to treat. Please call your vet and have her seen as there really isn't anything you can do at home without some veterinary care.

Increased thirst and urination as well as weight loss can indicate diabetes, kidney disease, a liver problem or even a uterine infection. Regardless, she will need treatment. The rodenticide toxin you mentioned typically causes a bleeding disorder. While it is possible she could have eaten some, her signs are not consistent with bleeding. Organ issues such as kidney, liver, or pancreas diseases can be cause as well as endocrine illness such as diabetes, gastrointestinal tumors as well as certain cancers can all be possibilities among others. Sara will need a hands on exam with her veterinarian as soon as possible in order to help determine the cause. Your veterinarian may recommend blood work and/or x-rays or other diagnostic testing to aide in a diagnosis. Treatment will depend on the cause. I hope this helps!

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to hear about Daisy. Contact your local rescue groups, humane societies, low-cost clinics in your area and seek help. Persistent vomiting, bloody diarrhea and lack of appetite are emergent clinic signs due to fluid/electrolyte losses. This leads to dehydration, weakness, and further downward deterioration unless the vomiting stops and the appetite returns. I would advise taking Daisy to your vet as soon as possible to have her evaluated. Many causes are possible including intestinal parasites, dietary indiscretion (eating things dogs aren't supposed to), other dietary problems, gastrointestinal inflammation/infection from various sources, toxin exposure, foreign body ingestion, GI ulceration, side effects from drugs or products used, or even problems outside of the gut including pancreatitis, liver/kidney problems, among many others. Your vet can get a detailed history and perform a thorough exam. Once done, a diagnostic plan and preliminary treatment plan can be started. Most likely a minimum database of fecal/blood/urine tests and some x-rays will be advised. Treatment will be focused on the cause but early treatment could include fluids/electrolytes, anti-nausea/vomiting medicines, acid blockers, etc. Good luck with Daisy.

I worry that she will become dehydrated being such a small dog. Based on her exam findings, treatment can be recommended or diagnostics if necessary. Poor Rosie! It sounds like she is not feeling well. Just like with humans, there are many potential reasons that a dog may have an upset stomach. It can range from bacterial overgrowth, to intestinal obstruction, or even to pancreatitis. I recommend to have Rosie see her veterinarian and the doctor will begin the process to figure out what is wrong. You can try offering her a bland diet of 25% boiled white meat chicken and 75% boiled white rice. This may not help however. It’s always best to be safe.
