My dog hasn't eaten for a week and has worms. What should I do?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Your dog appears to be young (under a year) from what I can tell based on the pictures and information you provided. The most likely diseases are as follows: 1. Parvo, a virus that primarily attacks the immune system and intestines of dogs and is very lethal if left without supportive care. 2. Intestinal parasites which can cause intestinal blockage and even anemia (depletion of red blood cells). 3. Other viruses with varying severities. This is not an exhaustive list, just the most common things for a puppy. They will all lead to dehydration and other secondary issues which can all be severe enough to cause death. Whatever the underlying disease, he looks very ill and needs attention from a veterinarian immediately. I would recommend taking him to your nearest emergency veterinary hospital as soon as possible. If Peggy has a large worm burden (lots of worms) then she likely feels sick and doesn't want to eat, and likely won't want to eat until the worms are gone. If the medication that your vet gave is a dewormer (typically a liquid called Panacur/Fenbendazole), then you can give it without food. This might clear out the worms and get Peggy eating again. If the medication is an antibiotic (Metronidazole, Amoxyclav), then this needs to be given with food. You can also talk to your vet about trying an anti-nausea medication to see if this helps with the appetite. If Peggy has abdominal pain, or is vomiting, please have her seen right away as high worm burdens can lead to a very life-threatening condition called intussusception. Loss of appetite can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Hooch evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Likely diagnostics to be performed include thoracic radiographs, abdominal ultrasound and bloodwork. Treatment would be dependent on findings. Good luck and have a good day!

First of all if you have found worms in his feces, that could be the reason for the symptoms, you should get him dewormed first thing. if deworming him does not solve the problem you will need to take him to the vet as he may be suffering from a bacterial/viral infection.

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It is ok for your dog to eat vegetables, they are good for dogs. Avoid onions, garlic, grapes, chocolates and raisins as these are toxic. Stick to the normal vegetables like broccoli, carrots, potatoes, cauliflower, peppers. No eating for 2 days after deworming is not normal. I recommend that you have him seen by his vet, as I am worried he has some other condition aside from worms that are making him sick. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Sakari! If Sakari is not eating and vomiting when drinking she needs to see a Veterinarian. She is so small at just 4 lbs that she is at risk for dehydration and low blood sugar. When dogs defecate blood that indicates colon inflammation and also indicates that severe dehydration is even a higher risk. Sakari may have such a high worm burden that all the worms dying are causing stomach and intestinal inflammation or they are causing an obstruction. She also could have something else going on, especially if she isn't vaccinated, like parvo virus or another viral or bacterial infection. The best thing for Sakari is to see a Vet today for supportive care. I wish you the best!
