My dog won't eat Petco food and is throwing up. Should I see a vet?

Hi there and thank you for using PetCoach to address your concern. Cana may have an underlying GI disease leading to nausea / inappetance / vomiting. I would recommend having a veterinarian examine her so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I would also recommend having a look at ( www.balanceit.com ) and use the free autobalancer to help formulate a homemade diet for her. You can also try adding in a probiotic such as Purina Fortiflora, which can be found online quite easily. I hope this helps! I would suggest to withhold food for the next 8-12 hours and then start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice diarrhoea, more vomiting, lethargy or inappetence. Vomiting and inappetence can occur from many conditions such as foreign body ingestion and obstruction, pancreatitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, among other possibilities. I am concerned that he could be showing signs of an obstruction which is something that requires therapy which sometimes includes surgery. I recommend that you have Jager evaluated by a veterinarian at this point for further assessment and treatment. This will likely require bloodwork and abdominal imaging in terms of diagnostics. Treatment would be based on findings. At the very least your veterinarian could start him on medications to make him feel better. Vomiting can be observed with conditions such as gastroenteritis, pancreatitis, dietary indiscretion, gastrointestinal foreign body ingestion and obstruction, among other possibilities. For this reason, I highly recommend that you have Bambi evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment as soon as possible as I am afraid he is likely becoming dehydrated. If the vomiting hasn’t improved on a bland diet, I would recommend Puchiwilly be evaluated by a veterinarian to determine the underlying cause for his vomiting, have any necessary testing done (X-rays, bloodwork), and start any treatment that he may need to resolve the issue. Hello. Unfortunately, many dogs are greedy eaters & do not chew their food, but even so, most do not vomit it back up. I would definitely give a wet food a try & see how he does with this. You might also try using Science Diet Sensitive Stomach. If he continues to vomit weekly, which is just too frequently to be ignored, you really should consider having Marco examined. You do not mention his age, but there are certain conditions & problems that may be at fault here, such as a condition called megaesophagus, or even a hiatal hernia. This may also be a true food allergy, so trying a hypoallergenic diet consisting of hydrolyzed proteins may help. See how he does with the wet food & go from there.
