My dog won't eat or drink, has gurgling belly. Could it be bloat?

The lack of drinking concerns me as that can easily lead to dehydration. I recommend that you have Blu evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Sheena should be evaluated by a veterinarian right away! If her belly is swollen she could be suffering from bloat (stomach full of air), a GDV (where the stomach bloats and turns on itself) or she could have fluid in her belly or uterus (pyometra). All of these conditions are very serious and require immediate veterinary care. I hope Sheena is doing ok! Please let us know if you have more questions.

I wouldn't worry about bloat if he's eating and drinking OK. Lethargy and a firm abdomen can indicate that something is causing pain in the abdomen, but is not specific to any one problem. It could be an intestinal disease, liver information, kidney inflammation, or other condition affecting abdominal organs. In order to narrow-down the cause of this, Confucius needs to be evaluated by a veterinarian. It's not an emergency, but good to have him seen in the next day or two. Oh no, poor Goober! If he had bloat, his entire abdomen would be swollen, he would be restless, anxious, unproductive vomiting, and would be looking at his abdomen a lot. I would suspect that he may have an umbilical hernia, which is not a medical emergency. At this point in time, given that he is drinking and eating with no problems, he's calm, and he's not vomiting, there's no need to rush him into the vet. Waiting until Monday will be fine. If you do see any of the signs of bloat that I mentioned above, then yes you need to rush him into a vet right away. I hope this helps!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Zeus! Since he is so young and has been vomiting all morning I would make an appointment for today. WE do not like babies getting dehydrated and if they can't eat they can get low blood sugar. Causes of vomiting in puppies are: intestinal parasites, viral (especially parvo) and bacterial infections, ate something gross, foreign body causing a blockage, toxin ingestion, reaction to new food/treat/table food, food allergy or intolerance. I wish Zeus a speedy recovery!

It could be that Zuess ate something rotten, has a GI illness, or a foreign body causing this runny tummy. It could also be that he has intestinal worms or something very serious such as parvovirus. Parvo is a too often fatal infection of young, unvaccinated puppies. Given I don't know his vaccination status and the fact that diarrhea can be very serious in puppies, the best thing to do is have him seen by a vet now. The vet can diagnose what is causing his diarrhea, and how best to treat it. Good luck, I hope this helps!
