Poor Murphy! I'm sorry to hear that he's having this problem. He may be constipated due to hard, dry stool; or, he may have some type of blockage in his colon causing him to be unable to poop. Since he is also not eating or drinking, I would recommend taking him to an emergency vet today to be seen rather than attempting any kind of home remedies for this problem. The veterinarian there can do a rectal exam to help determine what the problem is, and can get him started on appropriate treatment depending on what is found.

Hi there. I'm sorry to hear that Dexter isn't feeling well. What your describing is concerning. It could be kidney failure, but with the black stool I would suspect something causing his intestines to bleed, or blood loss from somewhere else. If you can get him to the vet tonight I'd recommend that. He needs blood work, x rays and fluids before he gets any worse. I hope that helps and best to you and Dexter.

I sam so sorry that she’s not doing well. From what you describe, I’m very concerned about her and you need to seek emergency veterinary care immediately. Call your vet’s office even if they are closed—they likely have a recording for either how to contact the vet in case of an emergency, or information for the nearest vet clinic. There are many possible causes for what’s going on, but it sounds like at the very least she needs some IV fluids and some lab work and possible X-rays may be needed. I am so sorry there isn’t something I can suggest you do for her at home at this point, but if she’s just lying there, she seems cold, and her breathing is labored, you have got to get her to a vet. Poor Dexter! The vomiting and diarrhea could be due to many conditions including eating something he shouldn’t have, bacterial over growth, parasites or even an intestinal blockage. If the diarrhea has continued beyond 24 hours, I recommend to have him examined by the veterinarian. If he has not eaten well for the past 24 hours, I recommend to have him examined by the veterinarian. With continued diarrhea, there are often bacterial shifts in the gut that will make matters worse regardless of the initial cause. Make sure to bring in a sample of fresh stool. The doctor will check him for parasites and bacterial over growth. Puppies generally have a big appetite so when they aren't eating well, it's concerning for a more serious cause of illness. Some times a bland diet can help and then a slow, gradual introduction to the normal food can be done. A bland diet can consist of 25% boiled white meat chicken and 75% boiled white rice.
