Why is my pitbull not eating, drinking, and just lying around?

Differentials are many, from gastrointestinal diseases (infection/inflammations often dietary related) to any disease that can spread systemically (causing lethargy for example) like infection, and anything that can cause pain/discomfort. The approach must be logic, starting from offering different kind of food. A check up is needed if inappetence lasts for more than 24hours. Hello, sorry to hear about Indigo. Ultimately it sounds like she could be very dehydrated and needs to see a veterinarian. She would first need to be tested for parvo, if negative other things could be considered such as low glucose, a foreign body which could be causing an obstruction, or even parasites. It sounds like she is strained to defecate, likely due to loose stools. Has she been vaccinated? Has she been dewormed or had a negative fecal exam for parasites? If she was eating I wouldn’t be as concerned, but with the poor appetite I am very concerned. Parvovirus or intestinal parasites are high on my list of concerns. Hi and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Although Mya is still eating, drinking, and having normal bathroom habits, the shaking and lethargy is a concern. Shaking can sometimes be an indication of pain or discomfort in dogs or can be a symptom of certain endocrine diseases. I would recommend having her seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible. In this case, it is very hard to say for certain what is going on with Mya without examining her first. A veterinary exam would be a good place to start so she can be evaluated head to tail. Your veterinarian may recommend blood work and/or x-rays be run on Mya as well to help determine a diagnosis. I hope this helps and thanks again for posting!

Hello, sorry to hear about Trig-z. She could be eating slower because something is bothering her mouth. Things to consider include dental fractures (especially if she chews on rocks or bones) and tooth root abscesses, especially if she has not had teeth cleaning recently. She could also have a systemic illness such as liver disease or kidney disease, but these typically cause inappetence or vomiting. If these signs persist longer than 2-3 days, or if her signs worsen, then she should be seen by her veterinarian soon. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Smokey. I recommend that he sees a veterinarian today. Parvovirus infection is unfortunately common in his breed. The veterinarian will examine him and likely perform fecal testing for this disease as well as other infections. Based on these results, treatment can be started to help him feel better. Try to encourage him to eat or place some karo syrup on his gums to prevent his blood sugar from dropping too low. I hope this information helps!

Poor guy. You absolutely need to get some testing done on this guy. I would start with some bloodwork and x-rays to evaluate his organs and intestines for abnormalities. Then go from there depending on the results. There could be a number of things going on here including: pancreas issues, an intestinal problem, kidney disease, etc. So many disease can cause these symptoms, which is why it is so important to start off with some diagnostic testing to narrow things down. Once we know what the underlying problem is, then we will know how to best help Khan moving forward. I do hope that Khan is able to stabilize soon! Best of luck and take care.
