Why isn't my pug bonding with me but loves the rest of my family?

That has to be frustrating for you! Dogs have different personalities, and although most dogs are very bonded to their primary caretaker, some dogs seem to take that person for granted. Your dog might just assume that you will always be around. and these other people are more exciting. To increase the bond with Maximus, I recommend you spend quality time together alone. This may be walking, cuddling. or playing with toys. I also recommend working on training sessions. This will help teach him to pay attention to you. I would recommend that you consider having your mom give him treats and as much affection as possible. Usually with treats he will most likely get to like her company more and more. It may be that Jack was afraid of that particular Pug. Some dogs are very dominant and he may have been submissive to her. The more time you spend around a particular dog, the more likely they are to get along. I usually take my dogs for a long walk with the dog they are meeting. What a cute puppy! Don't worry too much, dogs show affection in different ways. It could simply be a case that the pup sees you all the time but gets really excited because she doesn't see your girlfriend as often. Also dogs are very hierarchical so the pup may see you as the alpha, more of a boss figure. Whereas your girlfriend could be viewed more as a friend.

Sometimes they will choose who to walk with due to feeling safe but also due to dominance. He may feel you boyfriend is more of the alpha than you. I would start working with him on other tricks and teach him other behaviors as well. I would also consider taking him to a group training class just you and him this will help him bond with you and learn that you are also the “boss”. Also, there are trainers that will come to your house to work specifically for your situation. Finally, I would keep trying with the leash walk. You may try to go for a walk with you holding the leash and your boyfriend next to you. Overtime, have your boyfriend walk further away from y’all. Hi there, I understand why it's important for Zeus to bond with your husband. German shepherds are very intelligent and tend to bond with one "master" above other family members. The best thing to do is encourage your husband to spend as much time one on one with Zeus, teaching him commands like Sit, stay, lay down, roll over, high five etc. And enforcing his potty training as well. It's good to pet him and scratch him and give positive verbal praise, but some dogs dislike big hugs as its not a natural dog behavior. A great book which will help you is called "Decoding your dog " it's sold on Amazon.

The best way to ensure your puppy is bonded to you is to be the one who is the primary trainer/caregiver for her. If she isn't already signed up for a puppy class I would consider doing this with her. You can also start training at home. I highly recommend the books Perfect Puppy in 7 Days by Dr. Sophia Yin and The Puppy Primer by Patricia McConnell. If you are working with her every day training her and playing with her she should maintain a good bond with you.
