Why is my dog's nose scabbing? Is it serious and what should I do?

Scabs like that can be a few things. Sometimes it’s a one time infection. Sometimes it’s related to allergies and sometimes it can be related to hypothyroidism. Your fastest option is to have her examined by the veterinarian. Lesions on the nose may not heal very well with topical medication because pets lick it off. Often they are prescribed systemic medications since they travel in the bloodstream. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

From the photos it appears that the lesion is affecting both the mucosa of his nose and also his skin. This could be some sort of deep bacterial infection or perhaps something like ringworm (which humans can get). It is also very concerning however for an autoimmune condition. I recommend to have a Bosco visit his veterinarian with in the next day for an exam. The doctor may try treatment or testing for an infection. The doctor may also recommend a biopsy. Hi! That doesn't sound too serious to me. It's possible that the area is itchy and she is scratching at it, causing the scabbing. She may be getting insect bites in this area. Keep an eye on her skin, and if this continues, you could always have Zoey checked out by her vet, to be sure there are no skin parasites, or anything else to worry about.

Aww poor Grizzlu that must be very painful! That looks like very severe dermatitis. Some causes of this are bacterial and fungal infections, autoimmune disease, severe allergies, mites and even cancer. Please take Grizzlu to see a veterinarian as soon as you can. Whatever caused this it looks like it is now infected and she likely need antibiotics, topical treatment and possible other oral medications like corticosteroids.

Thyroid disease can also be considered. If the area of hairloss and scabbing does not improve or completely resolve within 1-2 weeks, then I would recommend taking Indy to your local vet to have the skin tested. It is difficult to tell from the pictures, but what you are describing on Cookie's nose can be due to a variety of reasons, including a scab, crusted nasal discharge, a cyst, a small growth, or another underlying issue. I would recommend that you have Adaline examined by a vet. These types of lesions can be caused by deep bacterial or fungal infection, or sometimes autoimmune disease or cancer. The vet may recommend a biopsy so a diagnosis can be made and Adaline can start an appropriate treatment
