My chihuahua has a nose bump and sneezing. Should I see the vet again?

Good morning. The bump on Toby's nose could be due to a number of things including an insect bite, inflammation, infection or less likely, a tumor. If the bump is not resolving within a few days, if it enlarges or if Toby develops any new symptoms such as nasal discharge, sneezing or lethargy, he should be seen by a veterinarian.

Poor Sneakers! If she is having persistent sneezing and nasal discharge even after treatment with antibiotics, and you are also seeing a bump of some kind inside her nostril, I would be concerned that she may have a nasal tumor or foreign body of some kind in her nose. If your veterinarian does not have any suggestions for further work-up at this point, I would recommend asking for referral to a specialist for rhinoscopy (looking at the inside of the nasal cavity with a small camera), as well as other testing if needed such as a bacterial or fungal culture, biopsy of the lump, etc. to try and get a diagnosis.

It looks like this lump could simply be a benign tumor, but that's impossible to say without seeing the dog in person. Any suspicious lumps should be examined by the vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of its cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. Once the cause of the lump is diagnosed, the vet can discuss treatment options if needed. I'd give your dog's vet a call to set up an appointment for sometime this week. I hope this helps!

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Chloe. I recommend that she sees her veterinarian as she appears to have a mass on her nose. She will likely need a procedure known as a fine needle aspirate to diagnose the mass. There is a benign growth known as a histiocytoma that is common in young dogs. Unfortunately, it has the same outward appearance as a cancerous growth called a mast cell tumor. The sooner a diagnosis is made, then a treatment plan can be formulated. It is hard to tell from the photo the characteristics of this bump. I would say it is possible it is related to trauma and I would monitor for now but it could also be a tumor (either benign or malignant). My recommendation would be to monitor it for the next 24 to 48 hours, and if it is still there in the same size or it is bigger I would have a veterinarian examin the area. Further testing might need to be considered such as taking a sample of the mass and sending it out for interpretation at the laboratory. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Poor girl. This most likely is either a mass (cancerous or benign) or an inflammatory response to a potential foreign body inside the nasal passage. It could also be an immune mediated condition. Since all of these things can look exactly alike, the only way to know for sure is to get this area tested by your vet. If there are any new things that you have introduced to your pet, then I would be suspicious that this may be a weird allergic reaction to that particular thing and remove it to see if this resolves the issue before seeking further testing. As long as this isn't bothering Piggy then you can take a few days to sort things out and then visit your vet if you think testing is the next best step. Hi and thanks for posting! The area around his nose does look a little red and swollen. Although perhaps not an emergency, I would try and get Prompto in to see his veterinarian as soon as possible.
